Well, another Woodstock-Hanover weekend for 1919 is past history and it seemed as though every one had a good time, as usual. Those traveling the greatest distance to be on hand for the festivities were Jack and Doris Ross from Portland, Ore., Norm and Elisabeth Sterling from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Greif and Katherine Raible from Lexington, Ky., and George Bingham from Taneytown, Md. It was especially nice to see Al and Helen Raynor, Jim and Paula Stone, Ronald and Winifred Lodge, and Hal and Florence Morse, who haven't been in attendance for a few years. Guests and friends checking in were Don and Brenda Millar, Brown '19, Jack and Sylvia Taylor '22, and Jake Bingham and the Amos Blandins '18. Other classmates who were around on a very rainy weekend, were Casey and Toni Bevan, Howie and Doris Cole, Chet and Virginia Demond, Jim Davis, Dick and Spike Dudensing, Fred and Gert Daley, Herb and Sally Fleming, Dan Featherston, Rock and Alice Earle Hayes, Ken and Marge Huntington, Paul and Katherine Halloran, Chet and Emily Gale, Adele Ives, Fat and Hon Jackson, Cotty and Kitty Larmon, whose wonderful hospitality after the game is always so enjoyable, Bob and Anne Lewis, Ed and Bea Martin, Jack and Hester McCrillis, Ruth McCarter, Bob and Hattie Paisley, Hal and Ethel Parsons, Bob Proctor, Jock and Edna Murray, Stu and Dot Russell, the KD Smiths with the Jack Mayers '20, Max and Helen Norton with son John, Ray Legg, Pete and Mary Lou Grey, and our efficient Class Treasurer, Ray Adams.

The program was the same as usual - cocktails and dinner at Woodstock Friday evening, lunch before the game at the Hanover Inn Tavern, the previously mentioned "do" at the Larmons, and back to Woodstock for dinner Saturday night. Ken and Marge Huntington entertained those of us who were around on Sunday, at their farm in Orford, N. H., and managed to keep things circulating on a very chilly day. Our thanks are due to Frank and Peg Holmes of the Woodstock Inn, and Jim McFate and Jim Rouse of the Hanover Inn for making a big success of '19's annual affair. Mark it down now, next year, 1962 - the date is October 5-6 when the University of Pennsylvania returns to Hanover. The foliage this year was wonderful, and we will hope for the best in 1962.

Missing this year were Harriet and LouMunro and Ruth and Norm Jeavons who were on a trip to the West coast but who remembered the gang with a real goofy postcard. Adele and Bri Greeley came to town for a short time, and regretted not being able to come for the weekend. There are many more of the class who should come to these fall parties so next year let's make it the biggest ever. We had 27 couples at Woodstock and 90 people at the luncheon Saturday. Jim and Beulah Capps had reservations but could not make it at the last minute, as did Bob Bard.

John Fornacca, recently retired as manageing director of the American Express Company S.A. 1. in Rome, Italy, and well-known to hosts of Dartmouth people traveling in Italy, is now associated with W. E. Hutton International Inc., a subsidiary of W. E. Hutton and Co., 14 Wall Street, N. Y., members of the New York Stock Exchange, John was recently elected Commander of the American Legion in Italy and has been decorated by the Italian Government. Giovanni Gronchi, president of the Italian Government, recently promoted him to the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, the highest rank obtainable in that order. John's current address is 7 Via Lucullo, Rome, Italy.

Fred Blanpied retired in September from the Bell Telephone system in Whippany,. N. J., where he was assistant to the director of military systems. Fred is a veteran of both World Wars and in World War II received the Commendation Award for outstanding performance of duty. He has been active in civic affairs in Mahwah, N. J., and was a founder and former president of the Federation of Parent Teacher Associationsin Ridgewood, his former home.

Larry Eastman, of Cape Elisabeth, Me., notes, "On this, my 66th we became grandparents for the first time, a boy, John Woods Eastman. Quite an event for us, but. very 'old hat' to many of our classmates. We stay active, I in my life insurance work, and Emma in her interest in the local museum. Sort of feel as though we should; snug down in a place with less land (25 acres), less grass to cut (three hours by rotary pusher) and less garden. Too, we'd like to be on the shore. Perhaps, some day!" A card from Williamsburg, Va., indicates that Maury and Priscilla Hall were enjoying themselves in that historic town, and couldn't make Woodstock. From Budd "Welsh, of Morristown, N. J., "I, too, was sorry to have missed you when I was in Hanover for a couple of hours last month. At the Inn I met Ray Adams who happened to be in town attending a conference. He brought me up to date on some interesting items. Leonora and I were en route to Whitefield where we spent a few days with the Dodge family. They operate an excellent hotel, as you know, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, even though it was much too hot for September. We were unable to be with you this last weekend, but thought of you all and will be interested to read the report in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE or in Dan's letter."

A nice note received from Mrs. Charles W. Aiman, widow of Tom Hapgood is a good illustration of the continuing interest in the Class and the College of so many '19 widows. Quoting in part -

I sent my contribution to the Dartmouth Alumni Fund last week, so am returning the executed card to you. It may interest you to know that I always send the ALUMNI MAGAZINE to Tom Jr. who is now with the Army in Germany. I do enjoy it also. He is a first lieutenant now, married a home-town girl and returned with her for another year. After Tom passed away, I was unable to send Tom Jr. to Dartmouth, as we had always planned. However, he was graduated from Drexel Institute of Technology - '58, here in Philadelphia and is a very fine young man - a duplicate of his Dad I am relating this to you so that you will realize how much we love Dartmouth, even though big Tom has gone.

Your Secretary attended the disappointing Harvard game with Rock and Alice EarleHayes, and Greif and Katherine Raible and Catherine's daughter, and the social aspects of the day were a great success. Spotted in the crowd were Casey and Toni Bevan, Edand Bea Martin, Bob and Anne Lewis, BobProctor, Fat Jackson, John Shelburne, JackReilly - there must have been many more classmates on hand.

And now a Very Merry Christmas to all of you, and keep the post cards, letters and phone calls coming. And don't forget that Dan Featherston can't get out Smoke Signals without news.

John Fornacca '19 (r), shown receivinga commission as Kentucky Colonel, isstill in Rome, but now with W. E. HuttonInternational, investment firm. He recently retired from the American ExpressCo. after 42 years of service.
