REPORT: Well, where were you? The Dartmouth Night-1949 Rump Reunion on the weekend of October 14 was a dandy. These wheels were present for official meetings of the Class: Zeiser, Bandfield, Becker,Rodman, Alden, Swartz, Truncellito, Rasenberger, McGean, Wagner, and Struever. First we sauntered around the green on a balmy evening, listened to the singing, telegram reading, speeches, and brass banding in front of Dartmouth Hall. Then we met and decided: 1) To back up the NEWS-FROM-EVERY-'49 Project, and to get some kind of a word from every last breathing member of the class. 2) To continue the terrific improvement in our Alumni Fund performance, which last year shone like a new born star, thanks to Bandfield and a great crew of assistant, regional agents. 3) To continue the Gold Pick-Ax Class of 1949 Award. 4) To institute a Class Memorial Book Program. In honor of each deceased classmates, we will buy for Baker Library a book that will be impanelled with a suitable memorial inscription. These books will be devoted all to one subject. Wagner,Rodman and Becker are a committee to choose the subject and administer the program. 5) To finish Struever's unfinished job on the 1949 Aegis, where some eighty men didn't get written up. This will be done in the Newsletter, in sheets you will stuff into the tail end of the year book. Including pictures, yet.

On Saturday night, after the wet but decisive victory over Brown, the mob assembled at the Keenes' in Etna for drinks and dinner. In addition to the officials, these members of the Class were there: TomHuggins, Paul Denecke (who came all the way from Minnesota), Jack McCurdy (who waxed eloquent on his new pioneer table factory), Bob Swift, Spike Smith (who arranged the whole thing), Buck Weber (who showed off his pretty new wife and fielded inquiries about the Ivy League admissions situation), Bob Swift and Len Britton.

A most important moment was the presentation of the first 1949 GOLD PICK AX AWARD in absentia to San Franciscan Quent Kopp. Much applause for this man, whose accomplishments out there on the West Coast have been many and varied, whichsee separate writeup on this subject, in this issue.

John Loveland writes from Northbrook, Ill., that he is General Agent for Bankers Life Ins. Co. of Nebraska, with seven agents working for him, one leading the company. Diana is busy chasing after George (4), Douglas (2), and Gregory (2 months).

Jim Braunworth writes from the Park Avenue haunts of Kenyon and Eckhardt (the Madison Avenue epithet is now too much for the sensitive members of the profession) that I was mistaken in letting Yardley have all the laurels as chief and only class actuary. We hereby note that Bill White is the other only class actuary, working with Mutual Benefit Life in Newark, caring for Virginia and either two or three children, depending on the timing of certain facts beyond my immediate ken. Chuck has been assigned to actuarialize the Memorial Books program, whichsee; we shall think up something soon to assign to Bill.

Kansas Elliot has successfully run down the Ole Backstroker Stockbroker DanielDana Jackson III. In San Francisco Deke has been elevated to the vice-presidency of Lionel D. Edie and Co., investment counsel. He and Jeanne have two sons Dana IV (4½) and Michael (216.). Deke recently invaded the East for reunions with Jay Urstadt, Bill Mackey, and Grubby Dickson.

Pete Costich is heading up the retail sales operation of Hicks Nurseries, Westbury, L. I. In addition he represents the company in trade association work, traveling an area from Chicago east, working with landscape architects and speaking at colleges and universities on nursery sales management and promotion. "The only hobby I have left is scuba diving." So call on Pete to retrieve your lost-overboard treasures.

All visitors to the new Dartmouth Club in New York City's Commodore Hotel will note an outsize mural by Mike Gish, one of our few artist types. The column will look forward to description of and reaction to same by class members who stop in to check over the facilities of the new spa.

Burge and Caroline Stanley have a second son, Dabney, born into the fourth spot in the Stanley family past August. Al Wagnerand Joyce added Elizabeth Ann to their group in September. And I'm adding THE END to this write-up.
