Not many contribute, but those who do are good. Thanks to Penny Aborn and ChuckKingsley, the Sutherland mystery has been solved. We had his name spelled wrong, hence the trouble. So, his story has been passed on to Ellsworth, and we now have a tile on another of the missing sixteen. He was with us only freshman year, born in Brooklyn, and prepped at Erasmus Hall. Anything else would help the Golden Book, and we do need help.
But, more about Chuck. After the war, I was still enough interested in shooting, and did a bit on the range; in fact, I thought that I was good until Chuck's story came out. Shooting is this guy's full-time hobby and he has been in the money in every tournament that he has entered - and he gets to all of the big ones in the east.
Next, Ed Leech, who has stirred interest lately. We are working on the Golden Book, and Ed's participation there is important to us.
Once more to Ellsworth. Ed Ellsworth and I were to have had a meeting in late January but Ellsworth and Constance were then en route to Hawaii, with a return scheduled for early March. We'll work something out.
It was good to get such a nice letter from Lize Wheelock. Lize volunteered for Golden Book work. It seems that this tough winter has made a sissy of him, or maybe, the last two winters in Florida and Hawaii are the cause. Anyway, he is off to Florida. He has been preaching occasionally, reads a lot, but comes out second best with Polly at cribbage. He reports several fourteeners near him, with Jim Margeson and Dan Chase most handy. Also, Howie Fahey is quite a tough one at golf. One more point. Lize reports that he weighs exactly what he did when he graduated from Dartmouth 46 years ago. Who can claim anything near that?
Vogie Stiles reported good health and perforce, is quite a snow shoveller. He reminds us that Page Junkins has had a tough year with major operations, but is all right now.
Word came from Hadley and Lorine Cole is that they are all set in Florida. They were glad to get away from the snow, and I don't blame them. In fact, to those of you far enough away, if I told you the truth about how much snow we have had to shovel, you would brand me as something I have never tried to be.
