Another month has rolled around and I find it that time again to spread the good word. Speaking of the good word, I got one from Tom McBurney the other day from Gstad, Switzerland, a wonderful, little town 1 once knew well. Apparently our class dues are holding up for him all right, but he's having trouble with the frauleins - but who doesn't! It seems he found a little number on the slopes one day and began to apply the old Dartmouth touch. He thought he had a good thing going until he found out the girl was on the loose from a huge, local ski instructor. Tom headed south into Italy where I'm sure he'll find nothing but trouble. All women aside, I'm waiting to see how he handles the Italian drivers.

My desk has been flooded with news clippings and letters this month (I sound like I'm writing a lonely hearts column). This is about the time I find out who was married over Christmas, two months ago. Among those recently discovering that two cannot live as cheaply as one are: Mike Carroll and Joyce Armstrong, Jay Booker and Jan Kenton, Fred Abbe and Sue Shattuck, Georgia Kelly and Pete Ryland, who by the way is working in refractory sales with the Norton Company of Worcester, and Toni Walcott and Lee Horschman, who is employed with the Recordak Corp., division of Eastman Kodak. Jake Crouthamel was best man for Lee. I might mention here that Jake will soon be married himself as he became engaged to Carol Swett, a senior at Skidmore. Arnie Sigler was married in August which I neglected to mention last month. Mike Menaker was best man and Jack Hernck was an usher. Other '60's there included Mike Growney, Al Summers, Rog Zissu, Brad Lund, Spence Morgan, Bill Storm, Dave Harrison, and Bill Lum. Bill Lum became engaged to Beth Walker after his return from Hawaii in September. He and Rog Zissu stopped by in Minneapolis on their way back to the East. Never to pass up the chance to save a shekel, they drove somebody's ice cream truck back and arrived in Minneapolis with an empty tank and - between them. A quick wire home for a few bills, a round of golf, and three square meals, and they were on their way again. Bill is now at Michigan Law School where he is keeping an eye on Bob Hackett who became known as the "vegetable" while on the wedding circuit over the summer and fall.

Other engagements I see have been announced for: Ray Keating and Jean Woodard, Bill Danforth and Joanne Mayer, PeteBrightman and Margaret Erlandson, Sue Parker and John Prior, Kathy Gabel and Seth Strickland, Dorothy Matsis and DavidHambleton, Gail Newman and Don Landzettel, Nancy Reed and Ray Dilworth, Mary Dawes and Bob Armknecht, Judy Rosenfield and Pete Schwartz, Janice Bartlett and JohnRichardson, and Ann Cullen and Bob Irvine. Let me apologize for this long and rather impersonal list of engagements but I wanted to get them in the column while they are still news.

I have some great war stories coming from various Army camps throughout the country as 60's continue to display courage and fortitude beyond the line of duty. I'm going to wait on these, though, until next month when I'll have fewer weddings and engagements to report.

Before signing off for another month I want to put in a plug for Bill Batt who is our class agent for the Alumni Fund. As Dartmouth students and now alumni we have always known and can always expect that we will be asked to contribute to the annual fund. I suggest that we start right from the beginning with a positive attitude towards an annual gift to Dartmouth. We took everything the College had to offer for four years, much more than we paid for; and now it's time to return our thanks. You will be contacted in the following months. Don't forget where you spent some of the best years of your life.

Helping Bill Batt with the Alumni Fund organization will be some 100 assistant class agents across the United States. Jerry Boyle, in the Tuck-Thayer graduate program with Bill, will serve as a general district agent in the New England area and Gene Kohn, now working in New York for an advertising concern, will be the general agent in the New York-New Jersey area. Dick Griggs, now working for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co., writes, "I have 'hit' many '60's already due to my job and will be glad to see them again."

The morning mail has just brought a letter from the Hanover contingent of the Class executive committee, Batt, Boyle and Wayne Givens, with a few capsule comments on the Winter Carnival weekend. Seems that many classmates wended their way back to the campus for the gala occasion to be greeted with close to a foot of snow on Saturday and thus great skiing on Sunday.

Lt. Jim Burns, who has just finished six months of schooling at Quantico, stopped on his way to Pensacola where he will go into the Marine air program. He reported SamBowlby and wife Rita on way to a supply depot in California and Cliff Anderson shipping out of San Diego on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Hancock. Jack Sohm is reported to have assignment in Okinawa.

Hal Burdge and Bob Irvine returned from Wesleyan in Connecticut. They and Bob Colyer are student-teaching while working toward their advanced degree. Bob Cary was up from Boston as were Dud Weider and Joel Saperstein from Tufts Med School. They bring word from Bill Gundy and family that #3 is on the way. Congrats, Bill! By the way, how about our baby derby? It's about time (March 12 or so I figure) for the class boy to be born. Drop me a line when your boy is born so we can enter him in the contest.

Back to Hanover, Fred Celce returned with a patch over his eye to enjoy the weekend. Fred is trying to get into the Air Force but one eye is a bit weak and thus the patch. Bob Harvey, working in the New England area as an automotive parts salesman, stopped by to say hello. George Rush and Bob Phillips wandered up the Connecticut valley from Columbia Business School to join in the festivities.

Uncle Sam has called some of the '60's away from such weekends and included in that group are Bryant Barnes who has just entered the Air Force for six months, JohnBracken, Don Landzettel, and Dave Mills all in the Army. Along with the service news comes word from Kev and Mary O'Sullivan. Kev has recently returned to San Francisco after a tour of duty in the Western Pacific aboard the ammunition ship U.S.S. Vesuvius (appropriate?). He will be state side until the middle of the summer.

Mort Kondracke reports that he has finished basic training in the Army at Fort Knox and now is at Fort Holabird in training for CIC work. There with him are Frank Bell, Andy Paul, Rich Pomboy, and Luther Taylor. Again I'll close. Send along what news you get and save a few pennies for dear ole D.
