In the week before the Yale game your correspondent lunched with Class President Art Allen and obtained an eye-witness account of the '32 gatherings at the Penn and Harvard games. Art said that at Bonnie Oaks the crowd included Bill McCall, BillLieson, Max Wolff, Handy Auten, GeorgeBlaesi and Bo Wentworth, most of whom were accompanied by their better halves. As in the previous year it rained cats and dogs during the entire weekend and the football game developed into a struggle in the mud in which Penn achieved the astonishing offensive record of minus four yards. All this water, however, apparently failed to quench the spirit of conviviality and everyone agreed that this Hanover football game roundup of '32ers is something we should make available every fall.
At the Harvard game a tent was set up at the open end of the stadium to accommodate the Classes of '32, '33 and '34 who, as you must know by now, will hold their official Thirtieth jointly in Hanover next June. The Harvard game arrangements were made by Wes Beattie '33, Harry Gilmore '34, and our own Reunion Chairman, Don Marcus, now operating out of Boston. The tent was furnished with tables, chairs, and setups and Art reports that it was jammed with representatives of the three classes both before and after the game. Among those he ran into were Marcus, John Fish, Hank Greenleaf, Hank Barber, and Jim Gardner.
Last month's installment included news of Jim Moore's son Steve winning an important sailing trophy. We now have word from Jim himself, who adds the information that his other son Jim was a sailing instructor at Port Washington Yacht Club during the summer and is now at Drew University. Steve is at St. George's in Newport.
Of himself Jim says that after some fifteen years in the lace business he has formed a new corporation and is going into business with an old friend, Jack Heidenberg. The firm will be known as Moore Textile Fabrics Corp., with offices at 261 Fifth Ave., N.Y.C. It will distribute a new line of wide-weave draperies, curtains, bedspreads and specialty fabrics to the retail trade and other consumer outlets. In addition Jim will be associated with Heidenberg Textile Fabrics as vice president. He concludes that all this adds up to quite a bit of work for the old boy but that the rewards will be there once things are organized.
One undesirable but sure way to elicit a personal communication from you people who are sometimes so doggedly uncommu- nicative is to print a mis-statement of fact in these notes. A very kindly letter written by Ken Kendall from Rochester, N.H., points out that his son Skip '61 should have received the credit in our October issue for appointment as Aetna's special agent in southwestern Connecticut. Ken, who has been in the insurance and banking business in Rochester since 1932, says he has a second son who he hopes will graduate with the Class of '63 and he expects will also go into the insurance business. He concludes philosophically that the confusion of identities will continue for a long time to come. Sending his regards to the Class, he adds that with two boys in school he has spent a lot of time in Hanover during the past six years and has acquired a most respectable attendance record at football games and crew races.
Jim Miller has been elected vice president — Mohawk Sales, by the board of directors of Mohasco Industries, Inc. He will also continue his responsibilities as vice presi- dent of the Eastern Region for the Mohawk Carpet Mills Division, a post he has held since Sept. 1, 1959. Before joining Mohawk in 1953 Jim held sales and marketing posi- tions with Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., Cluett-Peabody Co., Inc., and The William Carter Co. His sales headquarters will be at 295 Fifth Ave., N.Y.C. He and Harriet make their home in Riverside, Conn.
Looking ahead, your correspondent will take this opportunity to wish all of you a real old-time Merry Christmas and to thank you again for those occasional personal notes, clippings, ,et al., which help so much in our attempt to keep this column in the news department. Sincere best wishes to you all.
