More activity in the political arena as word comes to me of successful '42s in recent political campaigns. James C. Kuhn Jr. was re-elected to his second term on the City Council of Pittsburgh on the Democratic ticket. Craighead practices law in Pittsburgh where he resides with his wife and four children. His oldest son is approaching college age. His law degree was earned at the University of Pittsburgh. PaulVaitees Jr. was re-elected to his fifth term as alderman-at-large in Melrose, Mass., where he is also chairman of the Republican City Committee. Paul wrote a most enjoyable and welcomed letter. He is in the investment business in Boston, which probably accounts for the free time which is available for the aforementioned sideline. Paul mentioned downing a few before the Harvard game with Prof. Joe Palamountain and Lt. Gov. Ed McLaughlin at Dick Lee's luncheon. I should hate to have seen them after the game! He vouches that Ira Herman, Ed Pingree, Andy Wood, and BobTaylor, all of whom he sees occasionally, are well and behaving themselves. Paul may be hunting some bigger political game - I'll keep you posted on future developments.

The '42 flag flew over the New Jersey State Capitol, so to speak, on January 9 when Robert Crane was honored by his colleagues in the State Senate. He was elected Senate president for a short period. At the same time Governor Meyner arranged for Bob to serve briefly as acting governor during his senatorial presidency. Thus, the highest honor of a political career that he will soon give up came to our classmate from Westfleld, N. J. He will retire from the senate on advice of his doctor. Reading the tributes paid Bob by Governor Meyner, U.S. Congresswoman Florence Dwyer and many others is most heartwarming. The accompanying photograph includes Bob's son Jonathan who held the family Bible at the swearing-in ceremony. His wife Frances and their daughter and other son were also present.

Dr. Robert Wilson has been elected chairman of the Dover (N.H.) School Com- mittee. Bob resides with his wife and four boys in Dover, where he is engaged in the practice of pediatrics. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Congratulations are in order for Bill Oppenheimer who has been named manager of the insurance department of Archer-Daniels-Midland Company of Minneapolis. Bill has handled a variety of assignments for ADM since joining the company as a production trainee in 1945. He served as manager of the Edgewater, N. J., plant from 1949 until 1952, and was supervisor and executive assistant in the alfalfa division in Kansas from 1952 to 1956. More recently he has been in Minneapolis in employee relations.

More good news from the business and industrial world, indicating the strong economic position of our nation and our Class:

Armstrong Stambaugh Jr. has been promoted by the Gulf Oil Corporation. Army will move from manager of the Boston marketing division to Gulf's domestic marketing headquarters in Houston. Among the other rewards of this transfer, I am sure Army will appreciate the improvement in weather — at least from November through April. Among his other blessings are a Master's degree in business administration from Harvard and three little girls.

It is a pleasure to pass along the announcement that Theodore Locke Jr. has become a partner in the law firm of Locke, Reynolds, Boyd and Weisell of Indianapolis. Ted earned his doctorate in law at Indiana University in 1950. He and Jean have a daughter and four sons - the oldest should be about ready to take up residence in Hanover.

Edward Doty 2nd has been appointed assistant general manager of the eastern operation of Sylvania Electronic Systems, a major division of Sylvania Electric Products, Inc. Ed joined Sylvania in 1952. He has been chairman of the division's long range planning committee since June 1960. He previously had been associated with the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory in New Mexico and with Julius Hyman and Co. in Denver, Colo. Ed, Ruth and their son and daughter reside in Wellesley, Mass.

Bob Conway has been named a three-year director of the Northeast Ohio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. Bob is with the Fisher Brothers Company of Cleveland, a food chain. Bob and Julie have two boys and a girl.

Well that is all for now. It is clear and cold in Rochester, but warm thoughts of friends and College take off the chill. We here are hoping for an early spring.

Bob Crane '42 (r) and his son Jonathan are shown at the ceremony electing Bobpresident of the New Jersey Senate, January 9. Also attending were Superior CourtJudge Fidler and Senator Clifford Case (c). Bob served as acting governor during theday. He retires from the Senate shortly on advice of his physician.
