Roger G. Allen '37 (left) was saluted as Class Newsletter Editor of the Year at the May gathering of Dartmouth class officers in Hanover. The following citation was read by Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, who made the award:
On March 10, 1954, the first '37 Mint Bag under your editorship was mailed from Hanover. For over eight years you have brought into the homes of classmates a touch of Dartmouth and all the news of '37. Your flair for the unusual in lay-out, your ability to blend the news of your class into a readable newsletter, have placed you in the forefront among Class Newsletter Editors. Your year-around frequency of publication has greatly stimulated interest of your class in its 25 th Reunion next month.
Your career in public relations and journalism is reflected in the quality of your work. You were one of the first newsletter editors to use cartoons to brighten the pages of your newsletter. Even before such services were offered by the Hanover Newsletter Office you were leading the way with new ideas in lay-out and style.
You have also been active in Dartmouth club affairs for many years. From 1949 to 1951 you served as secretary of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Long Island.
On this, the Silver Anniversary of 1937, we know that your classmates join us in the hope that you will continue to cover the '37 news beat for years to come. It is with deep satisfaction that we honor you, Rog Allen, with the award of Class Newsletter Editor for 1962.
