It will be of interest to the class to know of Bill Howard's change of address. He has left Seattle and is now living with a niece in California. His address is c/o Miss Gertrude Posz, 1244 Oak St., Colusa, Calif. Not long ago Bill had a slight stroke and another fall. This time there were no bones broken, and he has made a good recovery. However, his doctor advised that it was not safe for him to be living alone, and so the move to California. At last report Bill was happy in his new home, eating heartily, and gaining weight.
A clipping from the Milford, N. H., paper is headed: "Judge Prescott To Be Honored On Birthday At Sunday Service." This is none other than our own, still active and young in spirit, Ben Prescott. The item says of him: "One of Milford's distinguished citizens, Hon. Benjamin F. Prescott will be receiving congratulations and acclaim this Sunday, June 16, on his 84th birthday.... It was 56 years ago, in 1907, that the Kittredge and Prescott Law Offices were opened here in Milford, and Judge Prescott is still walking to his office every day, a familiar figure in town." And be it added that Ben is a most loyal rooter for Dartmouth teams, and, rain or shine, will be found in the stands at Memorial Field eagerly following action on the field. 1900 with great enthusiasm asm joins in the congratulations.
One winter day last February, Dr. ArthurWallace had the misfortune to slip and fall on the ice. He suffered a fracture of his right arm, and was incapacitated for many weeks. A letter dated June 26 states that he is gradually getting to normal activities such as driving his car and doing one-finger exercises on his typewriter. With great enthusiasm he reports two important facts: the arrival of another great-granddaughter and the near approach of strawberry festival time. With much less enthusiasm he speaks of his battle with insurance companies over payments for his accident.
In August Marjory Rankin Smith, Walter Rankin's daughter, and her husband spent a weekend in Hanover reviving memories of the Dartmouth campus and enjoying some of the offerings at Hopkins Center. She very kindly called on your secretary and his wife in their new home, and in the course of a delightful conversation gave us information about the doings of the Rankin family. Alice, Walter's wife, spent some days in August at The Waumbek in the heart of the White Mountains. With the opening of the college year she expected that a girl from Wheelock College would be living with her at Longwood Towers. This is, we hope, an arrangement which will prove advantageous to both of them.
Arthur Virgin writes of a very unusual attraction in the middle of his front lawn at North Hatley. A "fairy ring of mushrooms" has grown up where formerly a large tree stood. It is said that these rings, much publicized in English Literature, have some sort of mysterious powers and potency. We expect that Arthur will realize all good fortune and lasting benefits from his front lawn attraction.
It is now time to report the change of address of your secretary in Hanover. On June 17 he moved from 3 Pleasant Street to 8 Summer Street. After the upheaval of moving and the necessary adjustments occasioned by this move, the Goodhues are happily installed in their new location.
