We were glad to see the name of Jim Irvin among the graduates last June. He is the grandson of Arba J. Irvin, late of our class, which marks him as a third-generation Dartmouth man. He is now at Officer Candidate School at Newport, R. I. His brother John is also in the Navy, and is stationed at Great Lakes, Ill. Arba's third grandson, Tom Gale, has been teaching at Canadian Academy in Kobe, Japan for three years, and flew around the world this summer to spend three weeks in New Hampshire with his parents, Arba's daughter Joan and Walter Gale (M.I.T. graduate), before returning to Japan. The Class Secretary may also be forgiven for taking pride in the fact that the name of one of his grandsons, Stanley W. Brown, appears among those of the entering freshmen this fall. He is the son of Sanborn C. Brown '35. This makes him the sixth generation of Dartmouth men in direct line.
Word has just been received that Charles A. Wright, whose name has been carried on our class list, died in July, 1951. He did not graduate with the class, and received his A.B. degree in 1903 from the University of Chicago. Since he came to Dartmouth from Southside Academy in Chicago, there may be some from that city who remember him, and can supply further information. He was born July 13, 1875 in Broadwell, Ill.
