Charlie Hart is no longer with us. That very sad news is reported more fully in In Memoriam of this or a subsequent issue.

Arthur J. Coakley has retired from his position as Manager of Optical Engineering, Jones and Lamson Machine Co.. Spring-field, Vt. The Vermont Tribune brings Art up to date for us:

Mr. Coakley is a graduate of Dartmouth College (1922) and Thayer School of Engineering (1924). He had previously worked for the Illinois State Highway Department as' a civil engineer and for the American Bridge Co. as a design engineer. He joined the Comparator Division of Jones and Lamson in 1941. He was instrumental in modernizing production and inspection methods of lens manufacture.

In 1945 he assumed the duty of optical engineer and began a development program in lens design which revolutionized the concepts and contributed toward making Jones and Lamson the leader in the field of optical comparators. Having many patents to his credit he also contributed to the development of new light sources and electronic devices for the comparator. His many outside interests include fishing and boating, photography and antique clocks of which he is an authority.

Thank heavens Art has given up running and no longer cavorts as captain of the cross country team nor over the mile and two-mile distances he ran so well for Dartmouth years ago. He and his wife, Annie, plan to spend winters at their home in Sarasota and other seasons at their New Hampshire home in Whitefield. All Twoters wish them a myriad of happy days together.

All classmates will be glad to hear that Bill Mann is home at 15 Sterling St., West Newton, and is coming along nicely after hospitalization during October.

You were there but not reported - sorry, all those white hankiesspoiled the view.

Saturday evening after the Harvard game, a gathering of young quarterbacks and their teenage cheerleader wives fully enjoyed the gracious hospitality of Carter and AlieHoyt. The game was micro-analyzed and, of course, whether in defeat or victory - there were Dartmouth songs. Youngsters present included the Clarks, Cohns, Dwights, Hotch-kisses, Lelands, Millers, Morrisseys, Sands, Smiths, and Stetsons.

During October, Louis Thomas was reported in the Burlington County Memorial Hospital, Mt. Holly, N.J. All Twoters hope Tommy is now home and fully recovered.

Ray and Doris Atwood have announced the engagement of their daughter Gail to Richard A. Foley of West Newton. Gail, one of our favorite Class daughters and a. loyal Dartmouth rooter, is a graduate of Colby Jr. College and Wheelock College. Richard is an alumnus of M.I.T. The very best wishes of the Class to both of them.

Our roving correspondent, Stan Miner bless him for his contributions to this tottering column — reports: "Went to an alumni meeting in Sarasota and to my great pleasure who was there but Ev Petot. Catherine and I visited Ev and his wife in a very swank park where they live. Ev still plays the banjo with the same gusto he did for the Barbary Coast." Mighty good to hear of Ev - bet he can't run the quarter mile as fast as he used to and hope he doesn't try.

Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Clinton Hardy of Columbus, Ohio, and Hollis, N.H., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Ann Edwards Hardy, to Cedric Warren Porter Jr., son of our Ced and Emma Porter of Wellesley Hills. Ann is a graduate of the Laurel School and Wheelock College '62. A debutante of the 1958-59 season, she was presented at the Cleveland Assembly Hall. Young Ced is a graduate of Noble and Greenough and Harvard '60, where he was a member of the D. U. Club, the Varsity Club and the Hasty Pudding Institute of 1770. He is now in his fourth year at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Merry Christmas to everyone in the Class family - parents, sons, daughters, in-laws, and particularly to grandchildren.
