Winter will be fairly well spent when this column is published, but as it is being written, winter certainly has most of us in its icy grip. We plan to take up skiing (next year). This may be the only way to enjoy life from December to April - stop being a sissy and get out on the slopes again. How many of you have tried it? This has been a long cold one, and the golf course will never be more inviting than spring, 1963!

Em Rice chipped in with a most welcome letter and, although he tried not to show it, convinced me he is a very proud parent — and with plenty of reason because his older son Dave has been accepted for next September's entering freshman class at the College. Dave plans to major in mathematics. Congratulations to Dave as well as Em and Doris. I wonder if my young fellow will ever get through high school, let alone qualify for entrance to Dartmouth (or even Harvard). I am green with envy and filled with respect for the Rice family. Em lives in Hingham, Mass., and has been associated with Pneumatic Scale Corp. in Quincy since 1946. This company manufactures automatic packaging and bottling machinery. We keep some of their equipment busy here in Kodak's Rochester plant. The Rices enjoy New England small town living and participate in neighborhood, community, and church activities. They took in the Harvard game last fall as chaperones for 60 teenagers from their church. Brave people! Em quite often sees Roy Eldredge who is also a resident of Hingham and an excellent pediatrician as well. The Rices already are looking forward to the 25th Reunion of the Class, which falls about the time Dave will graduate. Can any of you beat that caliber of planning?
It was my pleasure early in January to attend a luncheon meeting with Bob Strasen.burgh, Dave Orr '57, Allan Karcher '51 and Mose Hutchens '17. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss strengthening of alumni ties with the College. The Class of '42, as you are aware and for which we may all be justifiably proud, is one of the strongest of all the classes. It takes real effort to achieve this status and greater effort to maintain it - so let us not rest on what we have accomplished, but rather continue to increase our support for Dartmouth and the many worthy things she strives to accomplish.
