APRIL 1963 ALBERT E. SMITH

Another of our old wheel horses, Fred Baker, has left us. Fred died at his law office in Lancaster, N.H., Feb. 4 of natural causes. We received the bad news too late to get publication in March. You can find more information of his life and works in the "In Memoriam" section of the MAGAZINE.

In the March notes I mentioned a letter from Pray Wadham most of which I had to hold over for April. Ruth Batchelder enjoys keeping in touch with the Class through the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. The new Secretary will always welcome a word from her. From Pray we learn she spent the holidays with her daughter and family in Pittsburgh. Leigh Kimball wrote his wife Neva joined our octogenarian group on Christmas Eve. Welcome to this Select Circle. Also a note from Andy Perham, joined in by Mazie. We hope we are correct in assuming that his arthritis is easing up inasmuch as he was able to write by longhand.

In January Alumni Articles there is listed "Mexico the Incredible" by Harold Morse. Apparently Harold can still write and we all would be glad to have him try out his talents in a news letter to us.

A newsy letter from Kenerson in Tucson, Ariz., tells of Charlotte's and his trek through the South, then to Texas and on to Arizona. I imagine at this writing they will be pretty close if not actually back home in Winchester. If it is anything like our Binghamton weather in February I am afraid they were not overly glad to be back in Massachusetts and away from Arizona. Kenie told of some of the frost damage in the citrus fruit groves of Florida. He mentioned the Steve Chases '96, with two big groves. The Kenersons also had a visit with Jane Howard now living in St. Petersburg. At Mount Dora they found Cornelia Smith who has lived there since her husband died some 25 years back; he talked with Horace Kidger; attended Ivy League Club dinner in Sarasota as guest of Warren Kendall '99. Dartmouth seemed well represented; among them were Emerson '17, Niles '07, Kenyon 'OB, Roger Brown '05, Clark Collins '19 and others. It must have been a swell Dartmouth old home week sort of affair. Then a short stop in Dallas, Texas, and on to Tucson, where they could soak in the sunshine (we hope) and be joined by Charlotte's brother Dan Ryder '21. Kenie seems to think that with wives, widows, sons and even grandsons we may hope to count on 28 to 30 in our group.

The second and finalizing Class letter I mentioned in the March notes should be ready the latter part of April or early in May, in ample time for you to contact the Committee so that you will be well taken care of when you hit Hanover once again.

Also vacationing in February and part of March was Kid Cohen. Maybe he is traveling incognito as there has been no report as yet from him. I hope he is all rested up and ready to pitch in and help put over this 60th reunion in a big way.

I know that spring is getting nearer; the days are noticeably longer and if you are a good imaginer you think you can see traces of pink in the maple trees. Good maple sugar weather should start pretty soon now and before you get to read this we will really see the green once again.
