Thanks to the help of my assistants, ArtChapin, Hal Fish, Bill Page, and Cap Pierce, the Class of 1906 exceeded its quota by 800 dollars in the Golden Anniversary Alumni Fund Campaign. The members of the class contributed 3,970 dollars and the widows and children, 1,575 dollars. Only two grads and two non-grads failed to send in a gift.

One of the books which I read this summer was "Let Me Show You New Hampshire" by Ella Shannon Bowles. Naturally there were some very interesting items about Dartmouth College and Hanover in it but what interested me, as a 1906 man, was what she wrote about Eric Kelly. She told about his being awarded the John New-berry medal in 1922 for the outstanding book of the year for children by an American author.

Among the books written by Eric which she listed were "The Trumpeter of Krakow," "The Three Sides of Agiochook," a tale of Hanover in Revolutionary days and "Treasure Mountain," a story of the Pueblo Indians of the Rio Grande Valley in New Mexico.

Nat Leverone has probably received more honorary college degrees than all of the rest of the class put together. In May Curry College awarded him an honorary Doctor of Science of Oratory degree. In June he was the recipient of the Horatio Alger Award from the American Schools and College Association.

Roy Owen's daughter, Louise, writes that after two cataract operations and one to remove half of her stomach she is holding up very well. As you know she has given a gift of ten thousand dollars in her father's memory to the college.

In June and July our class suffered the loss of three of its members, Ben Mathes,Fred Jones and Fred Welch. We also lost a loyal and generous friend in the death of Jesse Gage's widow, Henriette. And on July 31, Gus Ayers' son, William, passed away.

Bill Bodwell, who hasn't a living relative, is in very poor health and naturally is very lonely. Drop him a line and cheer him up. Address - Fonda del Corro Motel, Route 9, Framingham, Mass.

Cap Pierce writes that he is very busy writing ballads and composing anthems for his choir of 25 voices, all over eighty.

In September six of our classmates celebrated their birthdays in a very sedate manner I hope. Oliver Cromwell, Max Hartmann, Harry Higman, Jack Kingsbury, Clyde Souter, and Warner White. In October the only member of the class who gets a year older is Shorty Neal.
