The big news in Philadelphia is that we have moved our Club after a long association with the Princeton Club in Philadelphia. Our new headquarters are The Poor Richard Club, 1339 Locust Street, Philadelphia 19107. The Poor Richard Club is one of the leading private eating clubs in Philadelphia and was founded by Benjamin Franklin. We feel that our association at our new address will be most beneficial to all members of the Dartmouth family.
On June 27, over 100 alumni, wives, undergraduates, families, and guests enjoyed themselves to the fullest at our annual picnic hosted by Hugh Kenworthy Jr. '41 at his farm in Chester Springs, Pa. Perfect weather was with us for the entire day and a good time was had by all - swimming, games, food, drinks, and relaxation.
Our first summer activity in many seasons was a huge success as 50 members of the Dartmouth alumni and their families watched the Philadelphia "Phillies" beat the San Francisco "Giants" at Connie Mack Stadium on July 28. The success of this Dartmouth Night at the "Phillies" will probably lead us to many different Dartmouth Nights at various places in the Philadelphia vicinity in the future.
A "Wah-Hoo-Wah" for Bob Clothier Jr.'58 assisted by Sam Parke Jr. '60 for providing our Club with excellent social programs for the past year.
For the first time in many seasons, our soft ball team had a winning year. We made the playoffs before losing to the eventual undefeated champions of the league, the Germantown Cricket Club. I can't help but quote our Club's Newsletter Editor, DickLippman '42 when he spoke about the soft ball team being under the "talented tutelage of that triumphant triumvirate," Tom Malcolm '54, Art Judson '52 and Dave Steinberg '55.
Our next event will be a Dartmouth Night celebration at our new headquarters at the Poor Richard Club on Friday night, October 9, 1964. We will be receiving the live radio broadcast from Hanover of Dartmouth Night festivities at the College as well as providing a good night out for all. Watch the Club Newsletter for further details.
Also, mark your calendar for Saturday, November 21 for our regular post game cocktail party following the Dartmouth-Penn Football Game in Philadelphia.
The Dartmouth Club of Philadelphia joins the rest of the Dartmouth family, friends and alumni, in mourning the death of Ernest Martin Hopkins '01 and in sending sympathies to his family.
If you have not yet joined the Dartmouth Club of Philadelphia, you are missing out on many activities which have proven to be entertaining and enjoyable and what is more important, you are missing out on your closest link to Dartmouth.
