The family histories of the four '99ers who left us at Reunion time all have interest: (1) Herbert Adams '28 (May 26), son of Charlie and Mary Adams, was in the eighth generation from Edward Adams, younger son of Henry, who migrated to Massachusetts in 1636 from Devonshire. Henry's older brother Joseph was lineal progenitor of Presidents John and John Quincy Adams. (2) Marie Barstow Sharp (June 17) was in the ninth generation from William Barstow, who migrated from England with three brothers in 1635. He was the first recorded settler in Hanover, Mass., the birthplace in 1876 of Marie's father, Elmer Barstow, '99's beloved first secretary 1899-1909. The early Barstows were shipbuilders in North River, Mass. (3) Isabel Galusha, widow of Al Galusfaa, died June 3. Al's great-great- grandfather was a captain in the Revolutionary Army, and later Governor of Vermont several times. (4) Carrie Hutchinson, widow of Will Hutchinson, died June 4 in Presbyterian Home, Philipsburg, Pa. Her great-grandfather once owned several hundred acres on the site of the Battle of Gettysburg. Will's father fought there. His great-great-uncle, Aaron Loveland was a classmate and roommate of Daniel Webster.

More important to us, however, are the traits and activities of these four. Herbert Adams, Yale School of Forestry M.A. was a White Mountain Forest Ranger for many years; transferred later to Philadelphia, and then to Asheville, N. C. He established firedanger stations in the Northeast, improved instruments for measuring moisture and fire danger: Marie Sharp was a brilliant history student at Smith, M.A. at the University of Wisconsin, where she later taught. Then for many years was Dean and teacher at Katharine Gibbs School, Boston. Active in Smith Alumnae Association, both during wartime and later. Successfully modelled her 20th college reunion on Dartmouth '99 reunions.

Isabel Galusha's life was built around her inventor husband Al's multiple activities, and on their joint devotion to children and grandchildren. To Al she was always "Belle," his childhood sweetheart in Jericho, Vt. Carrie Hutchinson, like Isabel, was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. After Will's ten years in engineering lines, the couple realized their dream of a wellstocked truck farm near Pittsburgh. There the three children grew up in ideal surroundings. Both the Galushas and the Hutchinsons were staunch church folks.

Survivors: Herbert leaves his wife Glendora in Asheville, his mother Mary in Keene, and married sister Elizabeth West in Brookline. Marie leaves her husband, Dr. Robert Sharp '25, head of English department in Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. Isabel leaves a daughter, Ruth Bartley and a son, Ranney, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Carrie leaves three children, nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
