Harbingers - for weeks we have been looking for harbingers — of spring, that is — and, at last a great harbinger has arrived. Love in bloom, so to speak, in the manner of Ken Coyne tying the knot out in the Far West. Ken married Patricia Ann Davis just before Christmas at St. Anthony's Church in Long Beach, Calif. Pat graduated from the University of Southern California where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Ken, the son of Mrs. Charles Edward Coyne and the late Mr. Coyne of' New York City, received his Master's from New York University and is now preparing for a Ph.D. at U.S.C. The newlyweds traveled to Northern California on their honeymoon, but will live outside Los Angeles in Torrence.
Politics is big news this year and 47's will not hide their lights regardless of the job. Frank Mahoney has announced that he will seek re-election to the Selectman Board of Sharon, Mass. Francis X. has been selectman chairman for three years. Formerly a mathematics teacher in the public schools, he is now associated with a large firm publishing textbooks. Frank has lived in Sharon, one of the prettiest of New England towns, for 15 years.
Another politician of experience, Morton H. Morrison, has announced his candidacy for re-election to the School Committee of Auburn, Mass. He was appointed to the board in 1962 by selectmen and the school committee to fill an unexpired term and was elected to a one-year term in 1963. Mort is president and treasurer of Morrison Plywood, Inc. of Worcester. He and his wife, the former Shirley Harkinson, have five children.
And still another politico with experience, Herb Wik, stands for election as Selectman of Shrewsbury, Mass. "Never-say-die" Wik won his last election by one vote for the Shrewsbury Housing Authority after losing by one vote before a recount was taken. Herb, an abrasive (no insult intended) sales engineer for Chase-Parker and Company, distributors for Norton Company in Eastern Massachusetts, has lived in Shrewsbury for nine years. He received a law degree from Northeastern and has served in the Navy m both WW II and Korea. Irene and Herb have one child.
Boston University Medical Center has just named Dr. Richard Egdahl Chief of Surgery. Dick, an expert in organ transplant, comes to the Center from the Medical College of Virginia, where he was professor of surgery and senior attending surgeon. He will be professor of surgery and chairman of the division of surgery at the Boston University School of Medicine and Surgeon- in-Chief at the Massachusetts Memorial Hospitals. Dick's clinical interests center around endocrine, gastro-intestinal and pancreatic problems.
Speaking of doctors, Dr. John Gary of Salem. Mass., risked the witches' brew by discussing the topic, "American Womanhood" to the Essex County Medical Technologists. He emphasized the need for each woman to fit into her own pattern for accomplishment without attempting to copy others and becoming financially insecure in the effort. Hear, hear!
Dick Madison has just moved to Berwick. Pa., from Buffalo to take the newly-created position as Director of Grocery Merchandising of Weis Markets. Dick has two children and will live in the Sunbury, Pa., area.
It is very pleasurable to announce that our co-reunion Chairman Norm Fink, father of two and husband of one, has been named a senior partner of his law firm with the name changed to Lans and Fink.
Questions to which answers are desired: George Dalpliin now lives at Box 8564, Albuquerque, N. M. 87108 When and why did he leave Hanover where he was outstanding librarian in Baker?
Jeff Mills now at Box 751, West Palm Beach, Fla. 33402. Jeff was. or is, president of Data Processing Corporation and if he has moved to keep warm we certainly can't blame him.
Enough news for now. Write when you change work.
