Spring came early this year, and with it heavy rains, destructive ice flows, and news of '59 weddings and wedding plans. NorrieNims married Susan Stothers in Anchorage, Alaska back on December 18. Ed Labenski said his vows to Maureen Ellen Sexton in January and, for a while, will reap the benefits of a double salary and good health - his wife is a registered nurse at the Hartford, Conn., Hospital. Taking time off from his job as financial analyst for Ford Motor Company, Alan Hurlbut wed Judy Holbrook of Northfield, Mass. Bill Truex was one of his ushers. George Kraus married Patricia Confoy, honeymooned in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands and now resides in Freeport, Long Island while working as sales manager in the Hempstead office of the New York Telephone Company.

Many men's fancies resulted in big plans. Mike Cronin announced his engagement to Patricia Woolley and John Folmer plans to marry Eileen Engelmann in April. John is presently employed by Uncle Sam as a U.S. Army contracting officer at the Fort Monmouth Procurement Office, Eatontown, N. J. A member of the New York State Bar Association, he hopes to procure a law position when his stint is over. And the armed forces will lose another man to matrimony when Tom Davis marries Marilyn E. Monia of Beverly Hills, Calif. Tom did glacial research in Greenland and was a member of a three-man National Science Foundation team that explored the Royal Society Range in Antarctica in 1962. He is now serving as communications officer aboard the destroyer Frank Knox, based in Yokosuka, Japan. Pete Andrews, still busy on his math Ph.D. at Princeton, will marry Linda Fitch in June. Pete continues teaching as an assistant professor of mathematics at Carnegie Tech while he studies. Mike D'Elia plans to marry Margaret Susan Morman in August. After serving with the Air Force Mike attended Tuck School to finish up his degree in 1963.

A wide range of general news items includes mention of Ted Bachelder's joining the Allstate Insurance Company as an insurance analyst in the company's home office in Skokie, Ill. Den Lacross was promoted to assistant cashier in the credit department of the First Union National Bank of North Carolina. Bill Gumble and two other Milford, Pa., lawyers recently formed a new law firm. Bill received his law degree from Dickinson College. He is also a director of Gumble Brothers in Paupack, Pa. Jim Miles was recently appointed as an English teacher by the Tantasqua, Mass., Regional School. He did his graduate work at Clark University in Worcester, Mass. A graduate of Yale Law School, Lloyd Relin became associated with the law firm of Relin, Relin and Celona of Rochester, N. Y., back in November. Another lawyer rounds out this section of notes. Art Tell received his law degree from Ohio State University in December.

The over-all pattern indicated by '59 news is one of progress and advancement. Men seem to be finishing preliminary training and moving along in the first stages of a career. Many are performing tasks and services above and beyond their occupations. As parents and citizens they are beginning to work their ways into various community affairs. Jim Lust is busy interesting some of the top Dakota school boys in his area in Dartmouth - a service for the Big Green and for the town. Doubtless many of you are doing the same. Steve Plank, special agent for the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company of Milwaukee in Norwich, Conn., has been named co-chairman of the 1964 Cancer Crusade in Norwich. Good luck! He also is a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club in Norwich. Perhaps the mark of a strong class is the fact that its men engage themselves in meaningful endeavors additional to their daily routine. News of this sort may be of interest to others in the class. Let me hear about it. It would be one way of ascertaining what we're amounting to.

Sorry to force a moment of reflection on you. Back to news. Andy Mehalick is currently a salesman for Moore Business Forms, Inc. in Elmira, N. Y. Charlie Miller is busy as a credit analyst for the New England Merchant's Bank in Boston. Bill Truex mentioned above as Al Hurlbut's usher, traveled many miles shortly after the wedding to Puerto Rico where he is presently an architect in the firm of Reed Torres, Beauchamp and Marvel working out of Rio Piedras. And, to bring up Gavitt's would-be career if Hoehn were to have anything to do with it, the FBI did land on the real '59 in the person of Frank Waldburger whose current address is Jacksonville, Fla. Watch out for a guy dressed like DaveGavitt, Frank. It may be Hoehn.

That's all time or resources will permit this time. Don't forget a little something for the Alumni Fund, the pain only lasts until the check is in the envelope.
