The start of another year, and a tremendous amount of mail, news, and information to pass along which accumulated over the summer. From the address changes which the Alumni Office sends to me, I can see that the Class of '63 is scattering more widely each month. Please try to keep in touch with us. If you have, then you would have received Skip's Newsletter out last month and news of the extraordinary Alumni Fund Drive just completed and totalled. Our class did put on a better showing and as a whole, the total contributions came within 1% of the $1,800,000 goal. A sincere thanks to all of you who worked and contributed to move our class up in our division's standing (ahead of two classes - one graduating ahead of us).

News of Bill Subin's marriage to Petie Dub has been told to me by several '63's (including Bill), in particular Roger Adelman, my classmate at Penn Law. I heard that it was a beautiful ceremony, It seems that Bill has acquired another secretary - Petie's been sending me postcards from all over Europe.

Bill has planned a weekend for the class in Hanover on November 12-14. Here's the information: The weekend of the Cornell game in Hanover (Nov. 13) will be a reunion for our class and the class of '64. There will be a special section set up in the stands for us and Dave Orr '54 is emphatic that in order to sit in this section it is essential to get your ticket applications in on time - look at the ticket books sent from Hanover for the exact date. Headquarters for the weekend will be Ashley House (formerly Damon's) in Etna. This is Houseparties weekend up there, so to be assured of a watering hole and sleeping arrangements for everyone, we've taken over the entire lodge. A'couple of catches - first - the football team has pre-empted the place on Friday night and part of Saturday morning. Harry Ashley, the new owner, has been very cooperative — if you want to check in on Saturday morning, he'll hold your suitcases until the ball club clears out. Any overflow will be accommodated at a Norwich motel. Of course, you can make your own arrangements if you'd like to. Cost will be $10.00 for the weekend which includes Saturday night dinner, Sunday morning breakfast, and Saturday night lodging. A Tails party will follow the Cornell game at Ashley House - then Houseparties festivities at the various houses, etc. More information will be supplied by Skip in a newsletter, but right now Bill would like an idea on how many of you are interested in this reunion. We have some other ideas in the fire including tails parties after the Columbia and Princeton games - more on these at a later date.

One further comment before I get onto the news - there are Dartmouth Clubs in many of the cities where '63's now reside. Check into them, join, and help out with their activities. I'm assisting with the Philadelphia Club's Newsletter and enrollment of high school students for the College. Not only is this sort of thing fun and keeps you in closer touch with the College, but I'm sure you'll find that a great many of your co-members are active professional and businessmen whose advice and friendship will prove very valuable.

Much correspondence received over the summer - Bill writes that he and Petie met Gordie Hull and wife Barbs in the London subway. Gordie is still teaching English in Istanbul and will return to this country next year for graduate work in English. John Semack was seen in New York, back after travels through Argentina and Chile with an import-export business. Understand he's taking courses at Columbia. Ron Prior finished his Wharton School business studies here in Philadelphia and is now in the sixmonth Coast Guard program at Cape May. N. J., and Huntington, N. Y. Ron saw EdComisky, working in marketing for Campbell Soup Co., on his way to Minneapolis to marry a Skids alumna named Nina Knoblouch. Letter from Stu Mahlin telling me of his marriage to Julianne Pinson on August 28. She's a '64 grad of Lake Erie College for Women in Ohio and teaches orchestra in the Cleveland public schools. Stu is still with the management consultant and research firm Mayors and City Managers Association in Cleveland but also plans to pick up a law degree at night. He went the wedding route and attended Carl Wright's marriage to Jane Remillerd in Manchester. N. H., in June. Carl plans to leave the army in December, he hopes, and resume his insurance career in New York. John Bell and wife Carol also attended Carl's wedding - John's with Quaker Oats, I think. Stu also reported that Mike Emerson's wedding to Jane Shilling on May 22 was a blast and that Bruce Phillips is with the Navy somewhere in the China Sea. If anyone can be more specific about Bruce's whereabouts, let me in on it. Steve Jacobstein writes to report his marriage to Pam Williams on August 10 in Rochester - their hometown. Steve reports all's well at Cornell Law - nothing spectacular except that he hit a home run for the Law School Softball team.

Meanwhile I'm here working like the devil on the Law Review, trying to keep up with the classes, and make sure my wife finishes med school - nothing spectacular here either. Steve hears from John Chamberlin, who finished his two years with the Peace Corps in Nigeria - where is he now?? Ted Cutler and Bill Gerstley are in the six-month Air Force plan after which I think both go to New York for corporations or banks. Ned Riley wrote to Steve of some pretty nightmarish experiences as a Marine lieutenant in Viet Nam. I hope all is well with Ned. Jerry Varty is finishing Army language school - from there no one knows. If you do, Jerry, let us know.

Some sports notes - Gerry Ashworth was selected for the Maccibiah Games in Israel in August. He won a Gold Medal in the 100 meter run - first in 10.6 seconds. It'll look fine alongside the other gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics last year. And - Don McKinnon was the subject of a feature article in a Boston paper concerning his efforts at linebacker and Suffolk Law School at night. Mac is engaged, as we reported, to Nancy Hailer, a Lesley graduate and plans to have his wedding early next year. I'd like to hear about the Patriot's chances this year, Mac.

I wish all of you were as steady in sending along information as Steve Nazro is. Naz's last news (early August) was that his unit was deactivated and that he might stay on in Hanau, Germany for awhile. The address is Hutier Kaserne (whatever that means) - but he uses a return address of US51481867, 11th Chemical Co., APO New York. N. Y. 09165. He finds Germany and the opportunities to travel tremendous - got a postcard from Paris (also sent along a letter of his to Skip). He traveled for a time in France and England with the Tucker family (minus Bob and Ann) and, although he sure doesn't plan to make a career out of the service, life isn't too bad for the Naz. He writes that in June Tom Richards and wife Christy became parents of Thomas Scott Richards. He's working (the father, not the son) at Inland Steel's Chicago office as sales assistant. Pete Brown apparently had an outstanding year as freshman gym coach at Evanston High - the varsity won a state championship. Jack Phelan is stationed at Ft. Lewis - or was - probably was shipped out by now ... and I hope he's OK. FredSchmucker was married in September - working in insurance in Minneapolis. I'll have to end this now - an incredible amount of news to be included and continued in No- vember. Keep writing!!

Alumni Fund affairs were forgotten (momentarily) when '63 Head Agent Bill Russell wed Patty Thompson in June. On hand for the event were (l to r): kneeling,Dave Schaefer '63, Stu Brown '64; standing, Gil Knight '63, Bill Subin '63, DavidRussell '33 (groom's uncle), Bill and Patty. Bill Foss '62, William Russell '35 (thegroom's father), Burt Englert '42, and Art Simington '64.
