Hanover a week before the start of classes in 1965 is not the quiet little town of mid September 1926. The freshman class is on deck to a man. After DOC indoctrination, many are returning to town looking tired and unshaven, lugging sleeping bags and packs, and heading for the showers before appearing at the Dean's reception. Sophomores are back in numbers as they prepare for a four-day rushing period which is now held before classes begin. And many upperclassmen are there to participate in the rush, in football, and other student activities that are stirring before college opens. No Delta Alpha, no Norwich cadets (who to our untrained eyes marched like West Pointers), no trains to Norwich, no Doc Bowler, but the same feeling of excitement and anticipation that we felt 39 years ago. And there we left Alan to make his way through sophomore year.

Don't forget that Shaw Cole and JimMitchell will" be looking for you before and after the Princeton game on November 20. Look for the '30 banner somewhere on the same side of the stadium as the observatory. After the game, they've arranged for cocktails and dinner at the Peacock Inn, 20 Bayard Lane, Route 206. There will be a 1930 table for dinner and 1928 will meet there too. No reservations required. And don't forget that there will be a Class dinner on December 2 at the Dartmouth Club in New York preceded by an executive committee meeting at 3 P.M. Fred Scribner is anxious to have any Thirtymen who are interested attend these meetings.

George Covell has been appointed regional consultant for New London County by Simplified Business Service which functions as consultant to small business and professional men. He and Marjorie are living at 5 Westview Circle in Stonington, Conn., which is a delightful seaside town. Jerry Goodman sold his Chicago business in 1964 and has purchased an apartment at Miami Beach. He's sold, but not so sure about Alice. Their children are married, son John teaching English literature at N.Y.U. and daughter Ann, whose husband is a sculptor, living in Little Compton, R. I.Shaw Cole's Pitometer Associates has been engaged by the city of New York to make a survey of water waste and to locate leaks in the system through the use of a flow meter invented by Shaw's father in 1896. Jack Rich is serving as chairman of a Corporate Gifts Division of the Massachusetts Bay United Fund.

Win Stone is chairing a panel in Washington a t a meeting of the Council of Graduate Schools and will miss our New York meeting in December. Newell Rumpf, president, recently celebrated his 35th anniversary with Harris Trust and Savings Bank in Chicago. His business and civic interests are many, and we are proud of his accomplishments. Wally and Louise Blakey in September vacationed in Mexico City and Acapulco and had a most pleasant reunion with Jessand Barbara Lichter. Jess carries the title of president, A. J. Siris De Mexico, S. A. de C. V. Frank Rath, after many years in New York, is district sales representative of American Match Company and has settled in Swanzey Center, N. H.

Hal Booma, a vice president or United Shoe Machinery Corporation since 1962, has been elected a director of that Boston-based firm. Hal joined United Shoe Machinery in 1931 after several seasons of coaching the Big Green ends and a short stint in marketing with Dawn Cigarettes, Inc. He was named assistant director of research in 1947, assistant general manager in 1954, and assistant vice president in 1961.

From the American Embassy at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Harry Casler sends regards from the Far East: "Not much personal news from this sector but politically we're doing a merry dance. We did have Chris out here for the summer and now he's back at Hotchkiss (3d year) while Sandy, 14, is at Brent at Baguio in the Philippines. Still have two at home and this is some consolation. One item: toured much of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam aboard an armed helicopter recently and had a firsthand view of the situation there. It ain't pretty but the U.S. has no choice except to do what's being done."

Bill Wilson reports: "A pleasant family reunion in Europe this spring. Daughter, September Bowman, with husband and year-old son still living in Wiesbaden. Son, Eric, just returned from a year in Hamburg where he was finishing Ph.D. dissertation and is now assistant professor of German at UCLA. And 16-year-old April just got back from 13 months of school in Berlin. While there, she became a German Exchange Student, of all things, to London for a month. Is now finishing her senior year of high school at Westridge."

Jim Tyler moved to Cincinnati in February as a result of transfer by General Electric Co. and is now manager-finance of Large Jet Engine Dept., General Electric Co. at Evandale.

Chick Pooler is "trying out Florida for a year" and would welcome seeing any Thirtymen who might come within range of 135 S.E. Spanish Trail, Boca Raton.

Gordon Hoxsie's youngest son Chris is enrolled as a freshman at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill. Chris tied for second in New England schoolboy pole vaulting last spring.

And Ellie Gilbert recently returned from summer stock at the Point theatre, Ingram, Tex., and is off to the Virgin Islands to try to sell his boat.

The Class has suffered a severe loss in the deaths of How Zeigler, Herb Parry and Maurice Pinover in recent months.
