NOVEMBER 1965 PETER M. STERN, ROBERT H. NASSAU

This month has got to be catch-up month; I have a backlog of your letters and news that won't quit. First - a new daughter, the first, to Richie and Carole Berkowitz. Her name is Jody Beth and she very appropriately is a big girl (eight pounds at her birth on Sept. 12). Thanks for letting us know, Carole. Carl Wright wrote me about his recent wedding, reported via Stu Mahlin in last month's issue. Carl intends to continue his insurance career in a couple of months when he'll be leaving his DOD post. He has passed three of the ten actuarial exams, takes a fourth this month. Carl and Jane also passed along word of Bruce Phillips, with the Navy aboard the "USS EG Small" stationed out of Okinawa. By now, Bruce may be in Vietnam for a year with the Army Support Activity. I think he's in Saigon with this group. Jim (J) Bell and wife Judy along with their new baby girl are also with the Navy in Italy. They leave in December for a post in Oakland for six months. John Bell and wife Carol expect a baby in March. He's working in sales analysis and forecasting with Quaker Oats, as reported last month.

To continue Steve Nazro's letters and information — as far as I know, the Naz is still in Hanau, Germany. He writes that Chuck Faegre's boy and girl look like their Dad (is that good or bad?) and that Chuck is doing well at Minnesota Law School. And more from Steve: Bob Jackson still at Harvard studying Spanish; Rick Sawyer on the "USS Marshall" somewhere off San Francisco; Steve Rosen on some pretty boring radar picket duty also off the West Coast on the "USS Savage." Tom Carter took training with the Peace Corps and as far as Naz knows, he's still in India. Bart Osborn took up roundball again and spent part of his Army hitch, now completed, with a service team which included a Bermuda tournament. Steve Scott wants to give Oklahoma back to the Indians after a summer's heat in army fatigues. Where he is now, I don't know. ... If he does, let us know.

A tremendous number of marriages over the summer, here's a start: Gerry Ashworth to Jeanne Oshry. Gerry entered Harvard B School this fall and his wife teaches in the Boston area. Daryl Erickson to Virginia Adair Morrison of Winchester, Mass. She'll teach in Lincolnwood, Ill., while Daryl continues at Northwestern Med. In June, DaveElders and Marta Apy were wed in New Canaan, Conn. Dave is with Benton and Bowles in New York. Another summer marriage was Bill Hindle's. He married the former Ellen Moynihan in Boston last July. He's studying medicine at New York's Cornell University Med School. How Bill Horner and his new wife, the former Carol Woolman, will manage is beyond me. She's a senior at Bucknell and expects to graduate in January. Bill is a junior at Jeff Med here in Philadelphia - several hours away. Only a few more months. Bill. Dave Pentico was married to Barbara Ann Bacon in Mt. Lebanon, Pa., last June. They're living in Pittsburgh. Apparently Tufts Med is easier to conquer when married. At least that's what Larry Saperstein decided. He's married to the former Joan Ricardo, a graduate of Emerson College and now a dental assistant. Janet Carol Dueser and Barry Sharpless were married last April, but I didn't get word of the wedding until this summer. Barry's still at Stanford pushing toward his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. And more weddings: Robert Davis and Virginia Emond in August; Mike Leone and Virginia Rasmussen. Mike is at Jeff Med also and whenever I see Mike he looks very preoccupied with medicine. Steve Lister and the former Joan Reeve Gibson were married in June up in Boston. Steve's working in New York City after graduating from Columbia Business School.

I've got a pile of marriage announcements and clippings remaining, but I'll save some of them for next month in order to fit in a few other items.

Rob Stephenson has won a Fulbright for study in city planning in Sydney, Australia . . . that's all the information I have on this, so I'd like to find out more about Rob's travels from him, if possible. It seems that the war in Vietnam is being fought by Dartmouth. Tom Ralph has just returned and is a first-year student at Penn Law; I've been trying to give him three years of experience in three days. Pete Rollins, a first Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, was cited for bravery for his actions in Vietnam in taking charge of an evacuation operation voluntarily. He moved 700 meters in front of his Company's position during an attack by the enemy to get several wounded Marines out of danger. I think that Pete is back in the United States by now. Vinnie O'Neill and wife Judy were with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic but are now back in this country. I believe that Vinnie is studying for his master's in international relations.

A couple of notes before I close out this month's effort - The Dartmouth Club of Philadelphia is planning a general reunion before the Princeton game at the ROTC Armory adjacent to Palmer Stadium. Anyone intending to attend that ball game, try to arrive a little early. I should be able to get plenty of news if enough '63's show up. See you there.

Hope that you remembered to apply for your Cornell game tickets and noted your desire to sit in the class block. Plans have been completed for the reunion for the weekend. Headquarters at Ashley House in Etna (formerly Keene's and Damen's) with Saturday picnic lunch before the game in the Bema (starting at around noon); postgame tails about an hour after the gun at Ashley House; Saturday evening dinner at the same spot ($5.00 per head for good steak dinner); motels rooms for Saturday night at Ashley House or the Rolling Hills in Norwich (Friday night at the Norwich motel also available); Sunday morning breakfast at Ashley House for all. Plan to come, hope to see you. Finally, Don McKinnon was injured during an exhibition game after I sent in last month's column. Mac was out for a couple of months with torn ligaments in his right knee. Well be waiting, Mac. That's it for this month - keep writing.
