The College has available three color filmstrips for distribution to alumni clubs or individuals on a free loan basis. The filmstrips, running 15 minutes each, are accompanied by a synchronized sound track on a long-playing recording.
Equipment which will automatically project and change the pictures is generally available at photographic outlet stores throughout the country. Thus a filmstrip is much like a moving picture when shown on automatic equipment. A brief description of each film follows.
1. DARTMOUTH TODAY. Dean Thaddeus Seymour describes the College, its historic mission, and some of the major events that occur each year. Various buildings around the campus are shown. For a general introduction to Dartmouth, or to catch up on various recent developments, this filmstrip is made to order. It is widely used by enrollment workers wishing to show the College pictorially to prospective applicants.
2. ABC REPORT. This sound, color presentation describes the first year of a pioneering effort to offer disadvantaged youths opportunities to prepare themselves as candidates for independent secondary schools. The film is narrated by Dean Charles F. Dey '52, who has been Director of ABC (A Better Chance) at Dartmouth. ABC programs are being established on other campuses, as the project has attracted nationwide attention.
3. DARTMOUTH DANUBE EXPEDITION. A color, sound presentation of a great adventure - the first of its kind - by Dartmouth students who canoed the length of the Danube River in the summer of 1964. Pictures included were selected from a total of 17,000 taken on the trip, thereby assuring superb quality. The filmstrip was produced by Richard S. Durrance '65, one of the participants, and in itself represents excellent creative work. Along with the high adventure, the Dartmouth undergraduates established some genuine friendships with officials and peasants in numerous countries behind the Iron Curtain.
Local organizations might be interested in one or more of these filmstrips. They can be ordered directly from Dartmouth College Films, Fairbanks Hall, Hanover, N. H. 03755. Complete information on projecting the filmstrips automatically will also be sent upon request.
