There seems to be an unusual abundance of news this month, so I will get down to brass tacks right away. First of all, congratulations to all those who have passed the bar examinations. I am happy to say that I have joined your ranks and I am practising and I mean practising, law in Philadelphia - Among those who have checked in to tell me about their passage of the bars are Norman Buchsbaum, George Scott, and Kichard Berkowitz. Norman is preparing for a January 1 marriage and a position as third secretary of the U.S. Embassy in Stock- holm He became engaged to Roxanne Layton from Pikesville, Md., at the end of October. They plan to sail to Europe at the beginning of January and then drive to the Embassy. Norman passed the Georgia Bar and has worked for an Atlanta firm until this appointment with the State Department. He writes that Bill Greilsheimer, who had been working for the F.C.C., is now in training for Peace Corps work in Micronesia (if anyone knows where that is, tell me). George, wife Kitsy, son George III (eighteen months old) are residing in Greenwich, Conn. George passed the Connecticut Bar after graduating from Yale Law and has begun to practice with a law firm in Greenwich. He writes that he is interested in litigation. Berkie's wife, Carol, who deserved a degree from the College for helping the bear get through school, writes that her husband has also passed the Connecticut Bar and is working with a Westford law firm. He seems to be enjoying his work and has kept in touch with quite a few Pi Lams in the area. The Berkowitzes have added another daughter, Emily Sue, who was born on October 9 and weighed 7 lbs. 12 ozs. Jody Beth is already a year old and is probably feeding and taking care of her new sister already. Richie has seen or heard from Adam Heyman (still a bachelor in New York), Mike and Carolyn Geller and son, Greg, who are in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for about another year, Bob and Marilyn Burros and Steve and Joan Swirsky with brood. Richie was chairman of the Student Public Defender Program at UConn Law School where he graduated last June. I think that takes care of the Connecticut contingent.
I didn't think there could be any more but there is still quite a bit of marriage news from '63's. Morrie Kramer is engaged to Linda Garshman of Worcester, Mass. She is a BU graduate and plans a spring wedding. Morrie graduated from Harvard Law School but I don't know where he plans to practice. Another engagement is JohnChamberlin's to Ann Gellermann of Hanover, N.H. John is assistant to the Registrar of Columbia; they plan a June wedding. Howard Allen will be married to Rosemary Hexberg by the time this column hits the newsstands. She is an alumna of the University of South Dakota and San Francisco Art Institute and is a senior at the California College of Arts & Crafts. He is a lieutenant in the Navy but I don't know where he is stationed now. A September wedding was Rick Bowe's to Margaret Hathaway of Akron, Ohio. Rick is with the Perkin-Elmer Corporation of Norwalk, Conn.; they live in New Canaan. At the wedding were '63's Lee Erdman and George Knapp. Another wedding was Aron Greenwald's to Ruth Judith Pollack, a UConn and high school teacher. Aron is with Equitable Life in New York where the couple will probably live. Bob Goodfriend was best man. Received a photograph and news story about Bill Bates' marriage to Ann Sample. They are living in West Hartford where Bill is working. Also received word of Bruce Berman's engagement to Elaine Shapiro, an alumna of Barnard College. Bruce is studying for a doctorate in Political Science at Yale; he has already received a Master's degree from the London School of Economics which he attended on a fellowship.
We have interesting items aside from wedding and engagements which involve Bob Kendall who has joined his father in their insurance agency in Rochester, N.H. Bob has been in the insurance field since leaving the Army after college. Barry Linsky has been promoted to a new position in Lever Brothers; Barry graduated from Tuck School in 1964. The Dartmouth climate hasn't seemed to dissuade Paul Cieurzo from joining the Navy's "Operation Deep Freeze" which will take Paul to the Antarctica.
A quick and belated note from Bill Subin and wife, Petie. Jeremy Kant Subin, candidate for the Class of 1988, weighed in at 7 pounds, 2 ounces on October 10, 1966. As Petie puts it, their "boathouse" is 324 North Rumson Avenue, Margate, N.J. Congratulations!
In other news of '63's, Alex Bass is a gunboat commander in the Mekong Delta in Viet Nam. He made the newspapers with quite a photograph and story about his escapades in that area. All seems to be going well with him. Finally, John Gallo is now in Chicago after leaving the Philadelphia plant of Oscar Mayer & Co. See you next month. Hope the Big Green continues its winning ways. I will have more news after seeing several of you at the Penn game.
