Christmas cards brought all kinds of good tidings from various parts of the country. I'll start with them this time.

Pete and Leslie O'Neill are now living in Boise, Idaho, where Pete works for the Boise Cascade Company. They love the scenery and the proximity of good skiing. A pleasantly thick and pleasing Christmas card arrived from John and Anne Baldwin - John has recently completed a chemistry manual which is so concisely and smoothly written that even this thick-headed non-scientist has learned something from thumbing through it. Kate and Bill Duggan responded to the Class's magnanimous dues payment by picturing three wise men .bearing gifts on their Christmas card. Butch andCle Priest stuffed young Chrissy in her snowsuit in the middle of August, got hold of Santa Claus during his summer vacation and came up with a great shot for their Christmas card - what grass! Somewhere Chrissy got red hair, too. Tom and Francie Aley used up all kinds of space writing a P.S. on their nicely printed Christmas card. Twin boys Gordon Thomas III and Darr Hastings Aley were born on December 2, 1965. How did you do it, Ales? Two more boys and he has a basketball team. I see from Lynn and Dick Warden's card that Wards is still alive. Where are you and what are you doing, Wards, and do you still make those great pineapple upside-down cakes? Bob and Linda Helsell sent along a nice card and old Black Bart himself scratched a note containing some news. He is treasurer and comptroller of Cascade Natural Gas Corp. in Seattle and since June of '64 they've been a family of four with two girls. Dave and Cynthia Marshall came up with a great card picturing young Anne crawling out of the fireplace. They've recently moved to a miniature castle in the middle of the New Jersey horse country. Queen Victoria cast her spell over Jim andBetsy Wooster. They recently bought a 54-year-old ten-room house in another section of Needham from that in which they have been living. Jim was transferred to a downtown Boston office of the telephone company. Twenty couples now participate in their "ski lodge" over in Hartland so we'll probably see them on the slopes this winter. Apparently, Sam and Nancy Adams sold their VW bus and purchased a horse. Their Christmas card pictures the family troops in the blazing Carlsbad, N. M., sun astride a gallant white charger. Sam has just about finished his thesis. Tim and Midge Tyler wrote that they have just purchased a house in Niles, Mich. Tim has been traveling for the past three years with only weekends at home, but beginning in January, he started a new job in market research and the traveling ended. Ray and Rita Becker write that they finally feel settled in New England (Bedford, Mass.) and it would appear that they are changing into ski nuts. The Gateses, Mark, Betsy, Tuck, and Stephanie, sent greetings and the news that Mark is very happy with his new law partnership. And that polishes off the Christmas cards.

Only a few other tidbits to report on this time. A few births first. On November 14 a young son was born to Dr. and Mrs.Dave Neville at Mary Hitchcock Hospital. They currently reside on the Turnpike Road in Norwich. A post card brought the news of the birth of a daughter, Elizabeth Anne, to Fred and Kathryn Luedke on November 22. Milwaukee is their current hometown.

And a few other clippings — Tom Adriance is teaching European and American History at Castleton State College in Vermont. He is in the process of completing his Ph.D. at Columbia. Majid Tehrerian is now a government and economics instructor at Leslie College in Boston. He is studying for his doctorate at Harvard and recently spoke concerning the Kashmir dispute at a meeting of the Contemporary Affairs Club of Classical High School in Lynn, Mass. Joe Wattleworth, assistant research engineer at the Texas Transportation Institute, Texas A & M University, has been named as the recipient of the Institute of Traffic Engineers Past Presidents' award for 1965. The award was made for research he did on three-way ramp control to alleviate rush hour congestion. From my travels, I know that Chicago could benefit from his ideas. And one final news bit that I picked up in our office correspondence - John Hanson is now Assistant Dean at Stanford having been up at Oregon for several years.

Additional '59s are doing great work for us in enrollment and admissions work. George Drawbaugh is heading up a district in New Jersey. Dick Sameth is active in enrollment and club activities in New Jersey also. Vin Sawyer is doing a fine job for us down in the greater Washington, D. C., area. I wish I could do a better job of getting his great wedding picture into the MAGAZINE, but alas, unless the bride, the father of the bride, her uncle, the groom, his father and three or four brothers are Dartmouth men, it's tough! Last month I mentioned JimSwanson's good work for us as head enrollment man in Denver. I should add that he is ably assisted by Don Shwayder, TomSeawell, Lee Ambrose, Paul Clarkin, AlKrutsch, and Bob Halbert. One of the tough pills to swallow on this end is the inability to express adequately to enrollment men and interviewers, especially those you know, our sincere appreciation for the hours of time and effort put in, often with what seem to be very discouraging results. I think as our ability to communicate with the alumni improves and our travels produce a working familiarity, the concept of enrollment will be better understood, efforts will be better directed and results more satisfying. In my two years in the office I have seen great strides in this direction as a result of the regional breakdown of the country. At any rate, my thanks to those mentioned above and to all those I did not include who are lending us a very essential hand.

Hope the winter goes well and that the fuel bills aren't too high. Trust Abe and George will provide you with two nice extra days off this month.
