With Christmas and New Year's having just passed (at the time of this writing), I've had occasion to hear from many of you via the Christmas card route, so I'll pass on all the news that I've received with season's greetings.

Howie and Jackie Child had an early Christmas present in the person of a new baby boy, Peter Bradford, on November 22. The Childs are living in Seattle.

Other pre-Christmas news included the announcement of Rich Bloch's engagement to Miss Susan Low (Smith '66). Rich is at the University of Michigan Law School. A July wedding is planned.

Shortly before the holidays I made the trek to Boston to watch the Big Green hockey team in action in the Boston Garden Hockey Festival. Our back-to-back foes, Boston College and Boston University, were less than gracious hosts, so my partisan cheering was kept to a minimum, but the occasion provided a good chance to chat with some Dartmouth people I hadn't seen in a while. Dick Horton made the scene, having just returned from a couple of months of ball in the Florida Instructional League. Dick looked great, and since he was hitting the ball well down south, he can't wait for the spring and another chance to climb in the Baltimore chain. While we're on the subject of professional baseball I should mention that Bill Brown is among the front office personnel with the Detroit Tigers. More specifically, I think he is involved with their minor league operations, but I cannot be sure of that.

Back in the Garden I also ran into FrankHershenson. Like myself, Frank was in a loser's dilemma. We had very little to cheer about, but neither could we sympathy drink, because the Garden doesn't serve brew during collegiate games. (You know those college kids.) Woe is the sober loser!

As I said above, Christmas cards provided me with some news that is well worth passing on. Mike Buckley writes from Cornell: "I'm playing b-ball for the law school, which helps keep my weight down to 245. Watch a lot of TV and study a couple of hours each day." Don't worry though, I understand that Buck made a New Year's resolution to watch even more TV, so that his academic conscientiousness won't reach absurd proportions. Buck also mentioned that two of his favorite neighbors in Ithaca are JimMarkman, another law student, and MosHarvey, who was involved with Peace Corps language training at Cornell last summer.

Iggy and Jeanne Knox wrote at some length, and all seems well in Minnesota. Iggy had just dragged himself through his first set of med school finals, so he was writing even more incoherently than usual, but the letter was wonderful, and greatly appreciated. Apparently he sees Jim Cooper all the time as they're grinding out forty hours a week together at the U. of M. Med School. Iggy also mentioned Marsh and Gary Wilson and Sandy Ritter in his letter. Gary and Ritts are both doing well at architecture school, so the Dartmouth rep is being firmly upheld by our Minnesota delegation.

The most noteworthy and most extensive mail I received over the holidays was from Vic Mair via his family. Vic wrote an extraordinary letter about his experiences with the Peace Corps, covering everything from his training at the University of Missouri to his arrival at Bhojur, Nepal, his home for the next two years. I wish I could reproduce Vic's entire nine-page manuscript for you, because it was a profound, sensitive, and very enlightening piece of writing. I've had my doubts about the Peace Corps, and I still have some, but when I receive a letter like Vic penned I know that there certainly is a lot of good being done by some members of the Peace Corps - particularly people like Vic.

Word comes from Northfield, Mass., that Frank Heston has been named an assistant in the public information department of Northfield and Mount Hermon Schools. Frank and his wife Roberta are living in East Northfield.

Chuck Lobitz has chosen to enter the honorable teaching profession, and is at the Holderness School as an English instructor, and an assistant coach in both J.V. soccer and varsity skiing.

I've also heard recently from Palmer "C.D." Wooglin. Woogie spent the fall playing guard for the New Bedford Sweepers in the Continental football league, and is attending Dental School at night. Woogs also mentioned in his letter that he had heard from Bob Busch, but that otherwise his Christmas was wonderful.

I hope all of you are olf to a good start in '66. I hated to see the year of our numerals pass, but I guess the years will be whipping by even faster in the future. Good health in the new new year, and keep in touch.
