Like fellow alumni elsewhere, we in Fair-field County happily shared in the excitement over winning the Princeton Game - the Lambert Trophy Award and Coach Blackman's decision to stay made the victory seem even sweeter. The Association sponsored a bus trip to Palmer Stadium this year for the first time. We had two full bus loads of alumni rooters plus two or three sad-faced Princetonians aboard and from all reports the pressure will be on to make this an annual affair. John Heston '54 made the arrangements for the trip and deserves many thanks from all of us. Somewhat belatedly, he also deserves them for putting together our Club picnic last June. This was held at the Pound Ridge Reservation and drew a good crowd of alumni and families together for a fine, and fortunately beautiful, day of beer, coke and hamburgers, mixed in with Softball and volleyball. This too, it is hoped, will become an annual event.
The Association sponsorship of the College Glee Club Concert in the New Canaan High School on Sunday afternoon, February 27 is again under Jackson Smith's '36 direction and as can be expected from his handling of this affair two years ago will be a well handled success. Chuck Gardner '50 is House Chairman in charge of ushers and arrangements with the school. Vince Went-worth '36 is in charge of tickets and ticket mailings. Jack Gunther '29 for New Canaan, along with Steve Mandel '52 for Darien, Merle Hagen '44 for Westport and JerrySarno '50 for Greenwich are handling General Publicity - assisted in large part as we understand it by their loyal Dartmouth spouses. Proceeds from the concert will be used to further endow the Association's Scholarship Fund established two years ago from funds accumulated from the 1964 concert contribution.
At a recent meeting of the Association's Board of Governors and after considerable conversation with Dave Orr '57 and other alumni, it was decided to attempt to reorganize our Fairfield County organization. The intent is to encourage the formation of more local clubs, which would be more compact geographically, all under the umbrella of the over-all county association. Hopefully, this will mean a "going" club such as now established in Bridgeport and New Canaan for Darien-Norwalk, Stamford, Westport-Weston, Greenwich, and Danbury. The local clubs would sponsor the bulk of alumni activities such as dinners, dances, etc., with one or two major affairs, such as bus trips, Glee Club concerts, county picnics sponsored by the County organization. Formation plans are under discussion and more definite details will be issued in the near future.
