It is sad to report but, due to extreme business pressure, Dick Menin finds himself unable to tackle the job of Chairman of our 1967 gathering. Having watched Dick in operation in the past, we are disappointed because cause we know the great professionalism he would have put into making this one of the greatest ever.
However, Ed Senghas, who has also been extremely active in Dartmouth circles for many years, has agreed to take on the monumental task. We are extremely grateful and know he, too, will put the same kind of pro. fessional approach into the job. Actually it is quite a job to organize and find the time and people necessary to produce a good time for all at these reunions. The class is indeed fortunate to have people such as Dick and Ed who are willing to devote their time and talents in this direction. We sincerely hope that those of you, who get a call from Ed asking for help, keep in mind that this, although a labor of love, is immensely satisfying when the reunion results in a smooth running function. Give Ed your help where you can.
And, speaking of reunion activities, Bernard P. O'Shea, known to his friends of ancient standing as "Beep," is running for the School Board of Rye, N.Y. (a large suburb of New York City), where he has spent the last year on an unfinished term basis. There are two terms open on this, one for one year and one for five years. Between Beep and his rival, the one polling the most votes will be given the five-year term. One is not quite sure whether this is good or bad, but we leave that up to Beep, who has always been extremely generous with his time for outside activity. For example, he is a member of the executive committee of the high school Dad's Club, a member of the Cardinal's Committee of Laity for the New York Archdiocese Catholic Charities. Most of you know that he is also a regional class agent for the Alumni Fund, and he is president of the Resurrection School Dad's Club. He is also a member of the Citizens Committee for the Rye Public Schools and the Osborn Parent-Teacher Organization. Beep and Norma are the parents of six children; three of whom go to Rye School and three at Osborn School.
In the insurance world, Lee M. Alexander has been appointed actuary of the Massachusetts Workmen's Compensation Rating and Inspection Bureau. After doing graduate work at the Boston University School of Public Relations, he became a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society. Lee spent nine years in the actuarial department of the Travelers Insurance Co. and four years with the American Mutual Liability Insurance Co. where he was assistant actuary.
Continuing in the insurance world, Howard Deese has been appointed general agent in Worcester, Mass., by the Security Mutual Life Insurance Co. Prior to joining Security Mutual Life, Howard was a successful insurance salesman with Northwestern Mutual. He _ has completed the Life Underwriters Training Course and currently is training for his CLU designation. He, too, is active in Red Cross, Cub Scouts, Chamber of Commerce and the local life underwriters association.
And last but not least, we come to a man who must be fast on his feet, our own O.A. Martin. He has just been made general superintendent of the Passaic plant of the Naugatuck Footwear Division of the U.S. Rubber Co. Pat, a West Virginian, entered the employ of U.S. Rubber in 1950 at the Woonsocket Plant and came to the Naugatuck Division in 1955. He was named assistant superintendent and then in '59, promoted to superintendent of the plant in Passaic, N.J. He will be general superintendent of the mechanical goods operation. At the moment he is residing at 365 Village Drive in Cheshire, Conn., with his wife and five children.
By the time you read this, you still should have two weeks to become a member of a very large organization, i.e., that which belive the future of our country and our world lies in higher education for all, and will back that belief with money That's What giving to the Alumni Fund really leans As we have said before, if you haven't, doit now.
