I was having a pizza at Tony's Campus Pizzeria tonight (the old "Big Wheel" of our time) when Chuck Williams and his wife Cassie came in. We had a beer and discussed what we had been doing. Chuck has been in the Marines since graduation and is en route to Vietnam. He will be flying F4's out of Chu Lai. He is a captain now and says the way things are going over in Vietnam he will probably be a major soon. He has moved about six times in the last three years but has not seen many 64's. Another Marine is Bill Gesselin who has just returned from a tour of duty in Vietnam.
I have received the news that another one of our classmates was killed in Vietnam, Peter Morrison. He was killed when a B-57 on which he was navigator crashed on an operational mission. No words can express the tragedy of the death of a man so young. The Class extends its sympathy to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Morrison of Laconia, N. H.
I have gotten a lot of mail over the summer and will relay the news on to you. Peter and Pam Steck have a new member of the household, Miss Heather Baird Steck who is now about five months old. Pete is an industrial engineer for Automatic Sprinkler Corporation of America. He is a staff industrial engineer. He travels frequently (his wife is relaying this news) and is now spending a lot of time in Swainsboro, Ga., setting up a new sprinkler plant. Georgeand Noel Kinzie have a new son, John George. They are now living in Fair Oaks, Calif., which is where? He graduated from Thayer School a year ago with a Master's degree in engineering. His thesis topic was to develop a hard held unit which would "read" books by scanning a line of print and translating it into audible speech.
Another birth announcement: Pat andAlan Gruber became the parents of an eight-pound boy last April. His name is David Stephen Gruber, Class of '89. On the subject of classes, do you realize that the new class here at Dartmouth is running around yelling '71; now if that doesn't make you feel old. Al has finished his third year at Cornell Law and now is working for Sudarsky and Sudarsky in Hartford, Conn.
I received a letter from Ehny Camp over the summer. He has spent time at the U of Alabama Law School and is the Air National Guard and is now working in a bank getting rich. He and his wife Pat are living in Birmingham, Ala., and invite all '64's down to see 'Bama in action. Wait till the Big Green gets going.
News from Kansas City. Mike Wilkins and Dean Rozzans are in their fourth and final year at U of Kansas Medical School. Dean hastens to point out that he is not engaged as was erroneously reported by some irresponsible class notes editor. I guess it really caused havoc with his love life. Kent Stockton is also out there in his third year.
I got a nice letter from Judy Reichwald filling me in on what she and Jerry have been doing since graduation. Jerry is now in Vietnam in the Navy as navigator on the "USS Porterfield." He gets back in October. They were married right after graduation and have lived in Wisconsin and Minnesota. They will live in San Diego starting in October as Jerry serves out the remaining two years of his Navy hitch.
I got a note from Ric Du Puy's roommate at the U of Pennsylvania School of Architecture. Ric has graduated and is now in Holland on a Fulbright scholarship.
Second Lieutenant Michael Colleran of La Crosse, Wis., has been awarded U. S. Air Force silver pilot wings upon graduation at Laughlin AFB, Texas. Mike is being assigned to Kincheloe AFB, Mich., for flying duty with the Strategic Air Command, the nation's combat ready intercontinental missile and bomber force. If this sounds like it was written by the USAF... it was.
Jay Evans is presently aboard the "USS Laffey" stationed in Norfolk, Va., having a hell of a time from the sound of his letter. No more information would pass the censors.
I received a letter from Randy Stayin over the summer. He has just finished Law School this year at the U of Cincinnati and is now with Frost and Jacobs in the same city. He was married last year to the former Jane Cottingham of Miami University and Cincinnati. I don't see how I missed it. Jane was a familiar face through four years at Dartmouth. A wedding picture may appear at some time, although space is tight in these back.pages with a new-price increase by the printers' union. Attending the wedding were (among others) Tom Maddox, Frank "Turkey" Loveland, Dave Stenger, Barry Ramsdell, Larry Lester, and Ray Peters. Barry is working with Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati. Dave Stenger is getting married this month but that's all I know. Ray Peters was married in August to a girl from Toronto—that narrows it down. Please send more info and I'll pass it on.
If you get up to Hanover this fall, drop by.
