America had a vital period in sculpture from the middle of the nineteenth century through the first quarter of the twentieth century. This is the time mainly covered in this small, charming book of reminiscing on some early American sculptors. Except for the introductory essay all the articles first appeared in Worcester's Evening Gazette and Morning Telegram. The article on the French sculptor Louis Barye is out of place. Dr. Dodd's personal experiences with the sculptors and affection for their work give this book a particular interest.
Mr. Eaves, a noted sculptor, is AssistantProfessor of Art at Dartmouth.
