Tribute to Nick Sandoe '45
OCTOBER 1967

Nichol M. Sandoe Jr. '45, who resigned his position as Director of Public Programs at Dartmouth to accept the post of Director of Public Affairs of the Claremont Colleges California, was saluted by the Dartmouth Alumni Council at its June meeting in the following resolution:

The Council wishes to express its congratulations to Nichol M. Sandoe Jr. '45, Director of Public Programs, who assumes a similar post at the Claremont Colleges outside Los Angeles this fall. There he will be joining other Dartmouth men, including President Louis T. Benezet '36 and Eugene Hotchkiss III '50, Dean of Harvey Mudd College.

Dartmouth is much indebted to Mr. Sandoe who has been Executive Secretary of the Alumni Fund and the planning director of numerous major convocations on the campus. He has also directed the Dartmouth Horizons Program since its inception in 1962, and as head of Dartmouth's Commencement Committee he has brought perfection to that climactic annual College event.

Nick's primary responsibilities at Claremont will be to plan public programs, aimed at attracting wider interest in the Claremont Colleges, and to assist in the graduate school's alumni development program. The group consists of Claremont Graduate School and University Center, Pomona, Scripps, Claremont Men's, Harvey Mudd, and Pitzer. While each college is a separate entity, all share certain facilities to provide university-type advantages in a small-college setting. The so-called cluster concept was first developed there.
