Ruth Bean, daughter of "Cap" Jenkins, is enjoying a new, interesting, yet long desired experience. Recently she enrolled in an oil painting class at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Who knows, she may become a stern rival for artistic honors of the late Grandma Moses? On her return from California she drove over to Roxbury and called on Lynda Redington, widow of John Redington, who now is living at the Elizabeth Carleton Home. Ruth says that the home is a lovely place and that Lynda enjoys the many advantages of living near Boston. Twice a month Ruth is attending teacher-training classes in ethics, psychology, and social work, and is also a substitute teacher in classes sponsored by the Congregational and Episcopal churches of Newton Highlands.

A letter from Ruth, wife of Arthur Roberts, tells me that because of a visual difficulty Arthur is unable to write letters. Because of this difficulty and for other reasons his doctor advised against taking him to their summer place in Conway Center, N. H. There was an advantage in this arrangement since they avoided the rain, fog, and swarms of mosquitoes which plagued that locality this season. However, they did miss the glorious views, bracing air, and the resplendent fall coloring of the north country. We shall miss Arthur's pungent comments on the state of the nation.

The Goodhues enjoyed a pleasant surprise when Mabel Downing, widow of ArthurDowning, her son Everett, and his wife called on them. The conversation ranged all the way from Dartmouth reminiscences to poultry feeding, Everett's specialty. Everett reminded me of a happy episode of the early twenties when I and five sons of 1900 then in college had dinner together at the Candle Glow in Norwich.

Betty Redington, widow of Paul Redington, now finds walking difficult. This seriously limits her activity, and her children feel that it is not wise for her to be alone in the apartment. There is a possibility that she may leave La Jolla and join her daughter in Virginia.
