John Cushing Varney passed away in his sleep from a heart attack on September 27, 1967. John was the last of our Class Day speakers delivering the address to the Old Pine. His writings and poetry were published both in England and this country. An in Memoriam to him will appear in this MAGAZINE or a later one.
James N. Tuttle had a narrow escape from disaster while taking his boat to winter quarters in Chatham, Mass. Rough weather caused a fitting on the gas line to be cracked allowing the gasoline to seep into the bilge. The engine failed but no sparks ensued and they were towed safely into port.

Our Haggerty twins, Dean Francis H. Bird and Dr. Reginald H. Colley, enjoyed a dinner date in Cincinnati, Ohio, this fall while Reggie was attending a committee meeting of "the National Wood Preserving Association.
George R. Adams writes that Marian Has been home for a couple of months after a four months' sojourn in the hospital where she had a partial amputation of her left leg and was fitted with a prosthesis. She is doing well and we are all glad for this good news.
James F. Greenebaum says he is now pacing himself to a five-day week and is in good health. Hortense is back at her real estate business after a three-week tour of Portugal, Spain, and Morocco.
Mrs. Joseph W. Worthen (Dot) suffered a fractured shoulder this summer but has recovered enough to go to Florida with her sister for two months.
Report has it that Mary McLoud, daughter of Anson, suffered a heart attack this summer but has recovered enough to go back to work.
Vernon and Charlotte West and daughter visited Hanover for the Holy Cross and Penn games and Cambridge for the Harvard game. They are now at their winter home Brook-Haven Apts., Delray Beach, Fla. 33444.
George H. Hinckley and son-in-law took in the Penn game in Hanover and the Harvard game at Cambridge. Florence's health has not been too good and so she had to stay at home.
Ten members of '09 gathered at the Algonquin Club in Boston on Friday October 27 for our annual dinner before the Harvard game. Those present were Chester Brett, Wilbur Bull, Edgar Chappelear, Harold Clark, Leon Farley, Bertrand French, Curtis Hilliard, Stanley Leighton, James Tuttle, and Gordon Weinz. An enjoyable evening was further enhanced by a chance to visit with Ned Redmond '06 who brought with him a picture of Ralph Glaze '06 with his dog. Ralph who is 85 does a daily 5 miles of roadwork.
Birthday greetings this December are extended to Maurice G. Jewett (9), Edward D. Rich (12), Clifford A. Blake (21), Thomas O. Parker (22), Francis H. Bird (23), Stanley Gates (25), and Lindley R. Dean (28). "Curly" Blake recuperating from a shock will be 85. Bird, Dean, and Jewett join the octogenarians of the Class.
