Dick Owen, continuing in his second career of music, had his new one act opera, "A Fisherman Called Peter," presented recently in New York. Dick, a corporation lawyer who received his law degree from Harvard, has also served as a prosecutor for the Justice Department in which capacity he prosecuted the men who attempted to assassinate President Truman in 1950. DICK has composed several other operas and is married to Lynn Owen, who sang for two years with the Metropolitan Opera Company, and is now a leading soprano with the Zurich Opera.
Another recently elected public official is Bill Berge, who reports "I was elected to the Denver School Board on May 16 for a six-year term. We are already engaged in all of the problems relating to de facto segregation and a 31 million dollar bond issue, but the job is interesting and challenging."
Ed Pirie is chief of research and statistics in the State of Vermont department of social welfare. Doris and Ed have been back in Barre for six years and have five children, age seven to fifteen.
The first award of the year from the 45 Book Fund has been made to Shirazali Kotadia from Nairobi, Kenya, currently attending Tuck School. To quote Bob Hage '35 of the office of financial aid: "(He) came to me flat broke. The existence of your fund made it possible for us to provide him with the help he needs. It was certainly a great help to us to have something like this to fall back on." This most worthy fund is made possible by you faithful '45 dues payers - may your tribe ever increase!!
Bill Woods is headquartered in Boston as manager of the group department of the Loyal Protective Life Insurance Company. Bill and Mary with their seven children live in Waban, Mass.
From a new address of Metuchen, N. J., Blair McClenachart checks in with the latest news. His three children range from the eighth grade for Sarah, to Syracuse University School of Nursing and senior year at preparatory school for the twins (the first set of twins to be born to '45!!). "Selling advertising space for Chilton Company ... spare time spent on boat out of Pt. Pleasant, N. J., fishing for the ever elusive striped bass — hunting for pheasant and deer. Healthy, happy and poor."
Recently acquired new positions find John Leggat as the chairman of the school committee of Weston, Mass., and Harry Figgie as a newly elected director of Head Ski Company.
