APRIL 1967 DONALD BROOKS, JOHN W. SALADINE

Much to my chagrin, I now find that I failed to give you last month a letter received from Gene Towler the month before. Speaking of the holidays, Gene said, "Lucile and X spent the Christmas holidays in Ohio, visiting Tom '49 and his family at Dayton. We were invited to Columbus by Frances and Mott Brown, stayed with them overnight and had a grand time talking about all our past good times and the 50th Reunion next June. Searles Morton dropped in after his office hours, for a couple of hours, and it's the first visit with my old roommate in many a year. He and the Browns look and act as vigorous as ever. They're fun!

"Mott has lost his reluctance to retire, in spite of his usual energy, and Huntington Laboratories is now looking for two able men to take his place. Mott says he wants to devote time and energy to local hospital and church work and have a chance to see more old friends, on the way to and from Chatham, where they will spend more time after he retires. They intend to continue living in their attractive home in Columbus six months a year.

"Searles continues his law practice, is very busy and our conversation indicated he is very much 'in the know,' in Ohio business movements, as usual."

From Maurice Watkins comes word that, "We are planning to take a trip to Spain late in April to be gone until sometime in June so will not be in Hanover. Fifty years doesn't seem too long ago."

Larry and Lucile Nourse are wintering at Alexandria, Va., to be near their daughter, Patricia, and her four children and her husband of whom they are very fond. Larry and Lucile say that they expect to be with us in June.

The word from Norm and Mary McCulloch is that they "Arrived (at Islamorada, Fla.) after the long trek (1620 m.) on January 24. Stopped to have dinner with Nita and Bob who are fine. Hope to make a trip to the West Coast to see the Sarasota folk. Still working on correspondence and many details of reunion, and hoping all will go well."

In response to Sherai Smith's card of birthday greetings, Bill Sewall wrote Sherm as follows, "The anniversary was celebrated quietly at Holiday Inn, Breezewood, en route home from John's - Newport News - where he has been 20 years with NASA at Langley Field. Had a fine Christmas with his family (four lively kids) all of whom will be travelling with their parents to 1942's twenty-fifth in June. Our travelling limited to family visits except a convention or two a year for me. Last month finished a 48-page history of a trade group I have belonged to - my reason for missing Woodstock, since deadline was Dec. 4. Our health - tolerable - some breathing and circulatory troubles for me but generally under control. Expect to make Hanover in June."

Walt Waiters, emeritus senior surgeon of Mayo Clinic and emeritus professor of surgery in the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, was appointed vice president of the Pan-American Surgical Association for two years.

1917's FIFTIETH - JUNE 9, 10 and 11.

What's that? You haven't made up your mind whether or not to attend Reunion? Why, of course, you are going to! Just think of the good time you will have - seeing men that you may not have seen in fifty years. What a thrill that will be! And you will march in the Commencement parade, right behind the graduating seniors. It'll be a big time in the old town, and that's for sure! So don't miss it. It isn't too late, if you act promptly. You'll be there to see the old Inn, and will get an idea what the new Inn will look like. The whole town has changed quite a bit since we left, and there are lots of new buildings. You wouldn't know the Tuck School in its new location. And the Kiewit Computer Center, close by the new Bradley Mathematics Center. There's so much to take in that it's hopeless to try to list it all. You must come and see for yourself! But the buildings are only a small part of it - your classmates are the real attraction, and there will be plenty of them, your old buddies among them. So don't hesitate but send in word right away that you'll be there. Once it's over, it's gone for good, so live a little and make the most of two days! You'll be glad you did - and awfully sorry if you don't.
