With the preparations for "20th with Tribe" well underway, we still need some more of those cards sent in to give our hardworking committee a reasonable head count in order to be most efficient and to insure your getting your money's worth.
Bob Huffman has been elected president and general manager of The Huffman Manufacturing Company's subsidiary in Azusa, Calif., effective July 1. In the past, there has been one president of all the subsidiaries of the Dayton-based manufacturer of bicycles, power mowers, and service station equipment. Growth in sales volume, personnel, and plant now necessitates a full-time president in California. Bob has worked for them since 1950, following graduation from Tuck School. He is currently vice presidentprocurement.
Promised more from the fine letter from John Lee in last month's issue. As mentioned at that time, John and Nancy live in Duluth, Minn., where skiing is a major weekend occupation. The air is still and quite dry. Less than 100 miles away in Michigan, where they average over 200" of snow, the hill countries provide fine recreation. Last April, John and Nancy left on a business-pleasure trip to Europe. First stop was Norway, where they began, what turned out to be, a gourmet vacation. Nancy was at one time a high school exchange student in Norway and has many friends there. Norway's food ran from fresh poached salmon and multerberries to blotkake, a rich creamy dessert. From Oslo to London where they enjoyed pickled shallots plus recommending both the Braganza and Rule's as fine restaurants. From there to Switzerland and then to France and to Austria and back to France with one fabulous meal after another. And finally, from Nice to Florence where they recommended Otello's and Bucco Mario's restaurants They wound up in Rome where they loved the sightseeing, but said the food was only fair. John and Nancy have just purchased a 60-year-old farm in Sagaponack, Southampton, Long Island. They said they would love to have anyone give them a yell if they are in Duluth in the winter or Southampton in the summer.
Our high-up Speaker of the House of New Hampshire, Walter R. Peterson Jr., received an unusual accolade last month and it is well worth passing along. After several months of harassment by a small minority, who challenged his leadership, Walt called for a showdown in the form of a vote of confidence and received a roll call vote which was 380 for and 2 against. A political writer of "The Concord Daily Monitor" stated that the vote was one of the most inspiring endorsements he had ever seen any man produce. Walt's classmates will agree wholeheartedly with that.
We received the writeup on Walt from Paul Richter '20 who is president of the Concord (New Hampshire) Dartmouth Club, and who has cordially invited anyone in Concord to attend the regular monthly luncheon on the first Wednesday of each month at the New Hampshire Highway Hotel in Concord, N. H. Many thanks to Paul for bringing this to our attention.
I also just learned that O. B. Butler has been appointed manager of the food products division of Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati. Obie was formerly sales manager of the packaged soap and detergent sales department. Any of you who are aware of the size of Procter and Gamble will also be aware of the extreme importance of heading up the entire food products division. Congratulations are certainly well deserved.
Don't forget the "20th with Tribe" and, if possible, send at least some money to Dick Hollerith Jr., 142 Inwood Avenue, Upper Montclair, N. J.
