Thankfully, I'm receiving an increasing number of newsy letters from our brethren. It's most gratifying - I can only hope that the trend holds. Here's a great example from Jack Warwick, in part: "Howie Crosse and I had lunch together. ... I learned he is the proud father of three daughters; one of whom is working on a doctorate degree. He has plans for worldwide travel this fall.... I met with Bob Dickey at his home in Sudbury, Mass.... Bob is one of the leading patent attorneys in the chemical world. He has a married daughter and a son who has just finished his hitch in the Army, and another youngster about to go to college.... My work in the carpet industry brought me into telephone contact with Ralph Charlton who is a prominent executive in the Congoleum-Nairn organization.... Charlie McAllister I see frequently and I hasten to repeat what I have said on other occasions - Charlie has done more to help members of our class than any other individual I know of. ... As for myself, my new-found role as an independent management consultant is most gratifying because it has embraced so many different fields including market planning (two trips to Europe last summer), mergers and acquisitions, launching of new products - and you name it."

Bunce Clarkson writes on the letterhead of Clarkson-Griffith Realty Corporation, Worcester, Mass.: "Have just completed my notes for 'first call' on the Fund to SteveSmith, Steve Hall, Joe Stickney, Wes Dingman, Dick Knight, and Cliff McDonald. Am happy to report that the summer residents of Drakes Island, Wells, Me., have withstood another attempt to rum our wildlife and summer resort paradise by defeating an attempt to impose a state park in a most impractical spot for same... the town fathers ... were attempting to fill the marshes in for an apparent parking lot."

John Camph writes: "After all these 34 years with Conde Nast - and most of them with 'House and Garden' - I've decided to seek an early retirement and do' something I've wanted to do for a long time.... For the past several years I have been deeply concerned with the lack of knowledge, and even interest, on the part of college students with the career opportunities that await them upon graduation... 'business' is a nasty word to college students... the business community must wake up to its responsibilities."

Arthur Birkette, district manager for the Social Security Administration in Norwood, Mass., recently explained the ramifications of Medicare to the Norwood Chamber of Commerce on a recent evening. I would like to know how Art could do all this in a single evening.

Bill and Betty Steck announced the wedding of their Suzanne to Byron Taylor Foster in May, at Gates Mills, Ohio. This occasion prevented their attending Class Officers weekend in Hanover, but I can't think of a better reason.

Bill Wilson, former mayor of Princeton Township (New Jersey), former president of the board of education, and a trustee of Princeton Hospital and the Princeton Public Library, ran once again for re-election to the Township Committee. His dossier further states that he is a director of the Tuition Plan, Inc., and C.I.T. Educational Buildings, Inc., C.I.T. subsidiaries. He is also vice-president and secretary of the C.I.T. Foundation, Inc., and a trustee of the Automotive Safety Foundation, Washington, D. C., and a director of the Council on Foundations, Inc., New York. I wonder who keeps his schedule for him?

Max Schultz rates a multi-page article in a recent issue of the "New Englander" magazine. In 1962 he purchased the Mountain Paper Products Corporation of Bellows Falls, Vt., and is presently making a name for himself in the specialty papers field.

Dr. George Phillips, professor in the English department at San Diego State (California), was married in January to Mrs. George Robert Daley, in Yuma, Ariz. I hereby relinquish the honor of being the most recently married class member.

Art O'Brien forwards a clipping of a letter he recently had published in the Framingham (Mass.) paper, concerning a municipal garbage problem. He feels something should be done about the town dump.

So, as usual, '31ers are busy everywhere, not merely making a living, but contributing to their communities - doing something besides what they have to do - voluntarily - effectively.

And why not?
