Once again I wrote to five classmates for news about their families and not a one replied. Maybe I should write about the women and forget the men.
Haven't heard from Winifred Glaze for several weeks. Hope this means that Ralph is at least no worse.
A letter from the Whittemores advises that Harvey's eyesight is not good enough for him to read or write but otherwise he is in good health. What I would like to hear from Helen is whether or not Harvey is still growing white carnations. The one thing that we enjoyed at our class dinners in Boston were the white carnations he always brought.
A letter from Edith Martin advises that Leigh went into the hospital on August 31 suffering from a massive heart attack. The first of October he was moved to a nursing home where he is slowly improving.
I expect that every classmate has read the newspaper publicity given Nat Leverone for his five million dollar gift to Northwestern University. Very few. people have given money to as many different colleges as Nat has.
This year President Powers, after making a survey, decided that there wasn't enough interest in having a luncheon the Friday before the Harvard game. So he invited the class officers and Randell Cooke to have lunch with him at the Ritz. Francis Childs could not make it but Cooke and his companion, Don Dunbar, and yours truly enjoyed an excellent meal. We enjoyed talking over the years since 1906, and as usual Walter had his stories.
On December 18 Francis Childs will put another candle on his birthday cake. And on December 26 Constance Benton will paint a picture of King to show how young he is.
The Class will be sorry to hear that Robert Russell, son of our classmate Norman, passed away July 6, 1968. His mother, Helen, died on July 18. I will have more information about the Russell family in a future issue.
