With the Alumni Fund Drive again under way, I had the opportunity to meet with President Dickey and a group of class agents here in Philadelphia recently. It seems hard to believe, but President Dickey holds the longest tenure of any Ivy League president for he has been with the College for 23 years. He commented about the current undergraduate agitation and what the adminis- tration is doing to meet it. It was a very encouraging session and just one of the dividends in helping Bill Russell as an assistant class agent.
I will be up in Hanover on May 10 and 11 for Class Officers' Weekend. I hope that Bill Subin and some other officers are there also for we have some reunion planning to get into. I heard from several of you about your willingness to help out on various class committees. We appreciate hearing from any of you willing to lend your help.
Lee Erdman has been appointed a banking officer in the National Division of Marine Midland Grace Trust Company of New York City, where he began as a management trainee in 1965. Lee earned his MBA at Columbia University Graduate School of Business and since June 1967 had been assigned to the company's far western district of the national division. He and wife Mary, according to most recent records, make their home at 520 East 73rd St. in Manhattan.
I heard from Hank Rogers who reports that he is in and out of the Hanover area on business quite frequently. He is a branch manager for Itek in Hartford. His company seems to move Hank and his family around quite a bit for he has moved seven times in five years. Hank, his wife Betsy and his three sons Bear, Greg, and Scott are living in Farmington. currently. Hank wrote that he sees quite a bit of Jim Palmer who intends to practice law in Freeport, Me., soon. Bill Bottger and Shirley are living in New York where he is working with "Life." He has plans to attend law school this September; I hope he talks with some struggling young attorneys before he makes the move. Bill was in Vietnam for about six months on a promotional project for "Time, Inc." He wanted to know where Dave Templeton is currently living. I understand that Dave is in Boston. If he is within the sound of my voice, I hope that Dave will drop me a line. Rich Berkowitz and wife Carole and children, Jody and Emily, have just purchased a house in Westport, Conn., on Calumet Road. Rich is still with a law firm in Westport and is one of those who have answered our call for assistance with the class reunion. An odd response to our questionnaire arrived from Jim Emerson who sent back the first page of the class newsletter instead of the questionnaire sheet. While I appreciate receiving mail from any '63, it is pretty hard to fill a column with that kind of news. Could I ear again from Lt. Emerson in Groton, Conn.? Jerry Uram, living in New York City with Susan and two-month-old son Michael Keith, is with the venerable firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison in their corporate department. I understand that Jerry has to wear a hat to work, something he never did while in Hanover. DennyEagle has also volunteered to help our class activities. He writes that Henny and Jevin, class of 'BB, are living in Great Neck, N. Y., as I reported in an earlier column. He is with the New York Telephone Company in quite an interesting branch of that company. Christie and Tom Richards are living in Concord, Calif., where Tom is West Coast Representative of a St. Louis steel company. He seems to do quite a bit of traveling and covers about four states. Tom's family and especially sons Scott and Steven are enjoying the good life in California a great deal. Tom packed his letter with information about other '63's including the fact that PeteBrown is back at the College in the Admissions Office. Bill Purcell stopped at Tom's house for a few days last summer and is currently in Columbia Law School. DanBracken is still at Stanford University doing graduate work and Tom would like to know if there are any classmates in the vicinity of Concord. If anybody is out there, let him know.
Two more questionnaire responses have come in recently. One from Allen Maurer who has gotten out of the Army and is working with E. F. Hutton and Co. in New York. He is still single which is an appealing thing to be in the City. Tom Brownell writes that he is in Boston with a developmental reading company, Readak. I had lost contact with Tom's activities for a while and I am glad to find that he is doing interesting work and enjoying it.
Just two marital items for this month; the class seems to be slowing down on this news. Dianne Hill and Bruce Birch have announced their engagement. Dianne is with the Visiting Nurses Association of Boston, while Bruce is interning in Burlington, Vt. Finally, Bill Hancock, also a doctor, is engaged to Cheryl Chandler of Minneapolis, Minn. They plan a June wedding in that city.
We will keep you informed of plans made during Class Officers' Weekend and hope that those of you who have not replied to the questionnaires will do so soon.
