Once again it's time to wrap up the year. It's hard to believe that we are approaching our third anniversary as alums. Don't let it get you down - the twist will make a comeback and you'll feel right "with it" again.
Heinz and Donna Kluetmeier have just announced another addition to their brood. Erika Tanya, their third, was born on April 12. Heinz and Donna are raising their family in what sounds like rural splendor — Holes Corner, Wis. That has East Thetford beat by quite a bit, I'd say.
Tucky Mays writes that he is winding up his activities on Wall Street in preparation for a sojourn to Europe. When he returns to the States in the fall he'll head right off to business school at either Harvard or Col umbia. If he selects Cambridge as the locat ion of his operations it's probable that Tucky and Marsh Wallach will be reunited as a jet set team. It will be interesting to observe how Harvard Square reacts to the polish and savoir faire which Dartmouth imparted to these social stuntmen.
Marriage is still our biggest business, and the tally follows: Ed Wynot and Miss Kathy Jane Gebhart in Glen Ellyn, Ill., on Jan. 20. Both are graduate students at the University of Indiana.
Most of the action is still in the planning stages - in other words, there is still a chance for these guys. Late spring or summer weddings are scheduled by four of our brethren.
Herb Carlson and Cheryl Carlson have set August 3 as their date. Cheryl is from Kensington, Conn., and will graduate from Southern Connecticut State College this year. She will teach in the New Britain school system next fall. Herb is at UConn Law School.
Ed Boyle and Miss Mary Knight are also on their way to the altar. Mary is an alumna of the University of Vermont and is a native of Essex Falls, Vt. She's currently a research assistant at Harvard Med. Ed is a third-year student at Albany Med.
June will be the month for Charley Terry and Miss Betsy MacGregor of Greenfield, Mass. Betsy will graduate from Wellesley this spring at about the same time that Charley wraps up his Harvard Law studies. He's been chairman of the Harvard Forum while at law school.
Frank Hankins and Miss Patricia Lykens are also due to tie the knot. Pat is a Swarthmore graduate, has an M.A. from Bryn kawr and is presently a doctoral candidate studying the history of art at Bryn Mawr. crank has his lieutenant's bars and his wings, and is a Navy flight instructor at Whiting Naval Air Station in Milton, Fla.
"Will "Gorton has traded a comfortable t at the Nashua Corporation in Nashua, N.H., for a rifle and combat boots. Bill is an 'Army private and recently distinguished himself in basic combat training at Ft. Dix, N.J
I received a note from Harry and NancyHansen recently. They're in Philadelphia where he is at Jefferson Med and she is finishing up her undergraduate studies at Glassboro State. As if that weren't enough they're also raising a -year-old daughter, Sonja. Apparently they see a lot of the MikeCralls. Mike is with the Philadelphia National Bank.
"News has come to me of yet another of our number who is enrolled in the Peace Corps Andy Rowles, who graduated from Dartmouth last June, is now an elementary school teacher in Micronesia (Ujelang Atoll). Andy's stay at Dartmouth was interrupted by a two-year stint with the Army. He's married to the former Miss Barbara Sorens on (Columbia).
The Alumni Fund returns have been encouraging so far, but we've still got a lot of work ahead. In our first two Alumni Fund drives we failed to attain both our participation and dollar totals, so we are really long overdue. Each year we have gained new contributors, but oddly enough a large number of former donors have fallen by the wayside. This year it is imperative that we retain all of our old supporters and draw into the fold more new givers, or we'll have another sub-par campaign. So give now and remind a classmate to chip it up too.
When you stop to write out your check to the Alumni Fund, take five more minutes to write me a postcard as to what's going on in your life. I'd like to hear from everyone once a year.
Reserve now the weekend of June 20-22, 1969, for '65's Early Fifth Reunion... '63 and '64 will also be there.
Best wishes for the summer!
