We arrived in Florida on December 29, same address, same house but different telephone number which we do not yet have. Going through Fairfield, Conn., we phoned the Siglers. They expect to leave February 15 and will be at St. Petersburg Beach until March 1. Hank Dearborn is already at Daytona Beach, 404 South Beach Street, and Carl Lenz is expected to come down later. He also goes to the East Coast, I believe in the Biscayne Bay area. Since his retirement he keeps busy with Lighthouse volunteer work and keeps in touch with many retired friends in his area, including Hal Clark who also lives in Scarsdale. In September he and Dorothy drove to Hanover. They had with them a grandnephew from Kenilworth, Ill., who entered the class of '72. They stayed at the new Hanover Inn and liked it very much and are looking forward to returning for reunion in 1970. The Hitchcocks will soon be at Madeira Beach and the Sunergrens expect to be at Englewood for a couple months.

There is a change of address for Lawrence Lovejoy from Melrose to 76-C Renwick Road, Wakefield, Mass. Another new address is Charles Mills from Minneapolis to 211 Oakwood Avenue, Hopewell, Va. Ed Maling has moved from San Diego to 470 Cotton Street, Menlo Park, Calif. 94025.

Although Mel Merritt retired as Ist v.p. of the Harris, Upham Co., Boston, in August 1968 he still retains an office at 225 Franklin St. to handle small business and to keep busy. In golfing weather he plays about every day since he lives on the 4, 5, and 6th holes of The Country Club in Brookline. A note from Ted Marden, although short, gives us assurance that all is well with him and Mary.

Howard Pullen of Battle Creek follows Dartmouth sports in news and broadcasts. He is also a Tiger fan and is happy about their success. Son David '61 is still at Luke A.F.B., Ariz., and a Captain daughter, Mary Ann, is still in Hakkaido, Japan.

Dean Travis, of Bozeman, Mont., who is keeping well and busy, repairing toys for his three-year-old grandson, fly fishing, bird shooting, recently went grouse hunting.

Roger Nutt, Frogmore, S. C., has a greatgranddaughter and is wondering if there are any other '20s who can boast of greatgrandchildren. I am afraid he doesn't have the monopoly; I know Charlie Crathern can boast not only a great-grandchild but greatgrandchildren, and I know Maury Dewey has a great-grandchild to add to his roster of 25 grandchildren, and I presume there are more. Let's hear about the fourth generation, who hashow many, etc.?

In March 1968 ALUMNI MAGAZINE we told that Art Thomson was back at his desk after surgery and more recently told that he and his wife had retired completely and were flying to the British West Indies to pick up a power cruiser which he had purchased. He planned to cruise around in the West Indies with Florida his destination. It is with regret that we have to report that he died December 2 aboard his yacht in the Philipsburg Harbor, St. Martin, Netherland, in the West Indies. Ralph Sunergren, almost a neighbor in Hingham, had planned to attend the funeral services representing the Class but Ralph was hit with one of the flu bugs just about that time and was unable to attend. An In Memoriam notice will appear in this or a subsequent issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE and the Class extends its deep sympathy to his wife Mary, his brother Earl, his three sons and the other surviving members of his family. The flu bug hit the Baketels also, both Sherry and Betty, and those who have escaped should consider themselves very lucky because it is rough this year.

Charlie Sargent is enjoying retirement and after putting up his boat spent some time on Nantucket Island and then took a trip through New York State and Pennsylvania, Cooperstown, Corning, Hershey, Annapolis, etc.

Enclosed with a Christmas card from Grace Newcomer was a color picture of her present home on Hollywood Drive in Munroe, Mich.. a very inviting house in a natural setting of large oaks. She sends best wishes to all her '20 friends. James and GraceParkes' Christmas card also was a color picture of their new homelovely, with a deep lawn resembling a putting green except for a slight slope.

Al Steinbrecher is still doing Vietnam phone patching from our boys to their families in the United States. To date he has completed 5338 patches. It must be a very satisfying hobby. He and Helen also have found time to take up lawn bowling at the local Country Club and are looking forward to seeing everybody in 1970.

Russ Cotner, living in Sun City, Calif., seems to be disturbed about the undergraduate activities at Dartmouth. Eric Houser reports that all is well and sends regards to all.

A message from Chet Smith in Pittsburgh tells that all is well but that they already miss Al Frey. Gene Fiske of Mount Vernon, N. Y., seems quite interested that Al Frey chose Maine for his retirement. Gene has had a summer place at Cape Porpoise (out of Kennebunk, Me.), last year being his 60th summer there, and he has been hunting all through the area where Al now lives. To catch up on Gene's family, Donald, his first son, having graduated from Maine Maritime Academy is captain with American Export-Istrandtsen Lines, and has two children; a daughter Nancy is a supervisory nurse at N.Y.U. Medical Center, and a son, Eugene Jr. is a senior at M.V.H.S.

Those who know Dorothy Sampson will be sorry to hear that her older brother died recently and very suddenly. She has sold her home on Downing Road in Hanover and is moving to Norwich, Vt.

A note from John Felli tells that he has had a busy summer with visits from his children and grandchildren since Southold, N. Y. is great swimming and vacation country.

Stan Conway doesn't say much except that his health is good which is what we want to hear. Bill Farnum, Spokane, Wash., is in good shape after a bout with surgery. He is semi retired and he is another who is looking forward to 1970 and only wishes that Hanover and Spokane were closer to- gether.

Duke and Elinore Bellen were supposed to have left for Florida on November 2, but we have a note from Duke telling only that Elinore died at St. Vincent's Hospital (Bridgeport?) on December 8. He didn't tell whether they had started for Florida or whether she was taken sick before they left. The sympathy of the Class is with Duke in his loss and sadness.

The Hal Bernkopfs are off again. They are planning a trip to India, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan and Hawaii.

James (Dan) Daniels having had a rather bad heart attack some years ago is retired from the real estate business and his activities are somewhat limited. He has four children and eleven grandchildren scattered from coast to coast. He was at Dartmouth only the first semester, taking his exams in the hospital. He and Ken Hardy roomed together and he is wondering if anybody can remember the other boys on the second floor of North Fayerweather.

Steve Graves has just finished his sth and last summer job with Humboldt Redwoods State Park as 70 is the deadline and compulsory retirement. He and Jessie are well and enjoying Novato and California in general with three children and seven grandchildren nearby in the Bay area. They also are hoping to be in Hanover in June in 1970.
