A report of the current class finances is just in and shows that Mrs. Starzyk has as usual been on the job. Eleven class members are receiving the MAGAZINE - according to my count at this writing this is close to" 85%. We also have been able to send the MAGAZINE to fifteen widows.

Your Secretary has been rather busy working up the figures for his income tax reports in between looking after his ailing wife. She was in the hospital during most of the Holiday Season but we finally were able to locate a very competent housekeeper and we are anxiously looking forward to when Mrs. Smith can be permitted to come downstairs once more. We had our 59th wedding anniversary around the middle of January. It was joyful, even if not overly exciting, to have her able to get up again.

March is a birthday month for four of us; Horace Kidger, Julius Walther, Lewis Haney, and your Secretary. It is a pleasure to have such good company this month - may we all have a happy and healthy birthday.

I wrote Lewis Haney and asked him to send a message to the Class. You can help him by taking care of your gift to the Alumni Fund drive early. His letter reads as follows:

Ag Smith says he needs "A brief respite," and asks me to report to the class at this time.

During the past few months, the ranks of '03 dwindled further, as two members passed on: Willard LaM. Hartshorn on August 13 and B. Wynne Matteson on December 27. Some others have been added to the inactive list by physical difficulties, for example Herbert D. Follett, Leigh Kimball, HowardRopes, and Jules Walther were unable to attend our 65th.

This increases the duty of those of us who remain to carry on the part '03 must play in the life of Dartmouth, as is emphasized by the conjuncture of three dates:

(1) First and most important, the annual Alumni Fund contribution drive for 1969 begins April 1. Have you repaid all that Dartmouth tried to do for you around 1899-1903, including the money she lost because of your low tuition? Do you know that your class dues provide for keeping the widow or next of kin of each of us on the mailing list for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE, class news letters, etc.?

So all of us who are left should keep up or increase our regular dues and contributions. This one should do before considering the other two dates, which are: (2) the Bicentennial Reunion for classes more than 50 years out, and (3) the Third Century Fund drive.

The Bicentennial Reunion occurs in Hanover June 16-18, with programs, luncheons, and dinners. Rooms may be reserved in dorms or hotels. I will send details to anyone who may plan to come.

The Third Century Fund drive is now on. If you haven't heard of it, or haven't been given a chance to subscribe, let me know.
