Again by land, sea and air the resolute, indomitable, and famous Class of 1914 is heading for Hanover due to arrive in time for all or part of our 55th reunion, June 13-15.
For some it may have meant breaking open the piggy bank or hocking the family jewels, getting' a friend to mind the stove or feed the animals but even as these notes are written on May 4 our indefatigable reunion chairman, Vogie Stiles, reports that we can count on well over 100 classmates, wives, and widows being with us and everyone knows that any Fourteen reunion anywhere in the world always includes wives and widows.
Turning the clock back to our "Great Fifteenth" reunion in 1929 our story reads: "By nightfall 85 Fourteeners had checked in and most of them had brought the ball and chain for ballast. It seemed as though the boys had culled their women from the winners of beauty contests for there was not one present who did not soothe the eye of the beholder."
As always a memorial to those who will not be with us in June, the story of our Fifteenth finds us parading to the Commons to sit down to one of the best meals A. P. Fairfield ever provided; then it reads: "As Toastmaster George Henry Tilton was a great success. Collector of the Alumni Fund, Martin Remsen, made a touching address. Prexy Hopkins came in for a short talk. George Young was a conspicuous success as a claque.
"Henry Koelsch, Walt Humphrey, JimGregg, John Burleigh, Ed Leech, Hal Pease,Page Junkins, Ernie Kimball, and JohnPiane all contributed speeches which added to the merriment of those present."
That was the year that Bill Slater succeeded Red Loudon as president; the year we spent Sunday at the Lake Tarleton Club.
Skipping 21 years to our reunion in 1950 finds John Palmer asking all of us "How is it with you?" in his famous letter so often quoted in which he finds that they're building stairways steeper, print is smaller, newspapers further away.
When you come to Hanover this June do try to bring with you class pictures, snapshots or movies of our earlier reunions. Perhaps you can mount some on display boards with names or dates or your comments.
An important event on May 2-3 was the annual gathering in Hanover of all class officers and their wives for a weekend as guests of the College.
Our class was ably represented by Layand Ruth Little, Mart and Kath Remsen,Vogie and Jean Stiles, Fred and Louise Davidson. The treasurer and your secretary were both unable to attend.
