I received the sad news over the summer months of the deaths of classmates LesterRockwell and Ornan S. Cook III and more detailed information will be supplied in the In Memoriam section of this or a subsequent issue.
John D. Adams wrote to me from Worcester, Mass., enclosing a news item from the trade magazine of the shoe industry “American Shoemaker” reporting that Roger Buffington had been sworn in as a trustee of the Lynn Independant Shoemaking School. John further reported that he plays squash two or three times a week and has climbed 51 of the 63 New England mountains over 4000 feet but still has a problem with the waistline. Move over, John.
Another note came in from ex roommate, John Mayer enclosing a chain letter and the information that his daughter is getting married in September and his son over the Christmas holidays.
Julius Westheimer, general partner at Baker, Watts & Cos., was the subject of a column in the financial section of the New York Times some weeks ago and he was referred to as one of the more successful investment analysts in the securities business. His picture, giving a long hard look at a prospectus, now appears in an advertisement for Baker, Watts & Cos. that appears in the “Baltimore Sun.”
On April 14, 1970 the Wall Street Journal announced that Patrick H. Gorman, for- merly advertising director of Joseph Schlitz Brewing Cos., was appointed vice president for Marketing and Advertising of Kentucky Fried Chicken Corp. Congratulations to Patrick but it is sad to think of a lesser beer at Reunion.
For those planning to attend the Princeton game at Hanover on October 10 Gil Tanis has offered his rear lawn for the traditional pre-game picnic. Always a great success, this is a “bring your own everything” affair. If you can only make the trip to Hanover once a year this is the weekend to go. The foliage will be greater than you ever remembered. The Tanis home is at 15 North Park Street—bet you can’t find North Park Street.
Eastman Kodak Company released a statement in May that C. R. Troutner had been presented with the Apollo achievement award for his part in the success of the manned lunar landing of Apollo 11. The award, signed by Dr. Thomas O. Paine, Administrator, NASA reads: “In apprecia- tion of dedicated service to the nation as a member of the team which has advanced the nation’s capabilities in aeronautics and space and demonstrated them in many outstanding accomplishments culminating in Apollo’s successful achievement of man’s first landing on the moon, July 20, 1969.”
Don’t forget the Tanis picnic for the Princeton game and look for notices that Charlie Hitchcock will organize a similar affair for the Harvard game and Bob Deery for the Yale game.
