Congratulations to Bob Shifman who by the time you read this will have been married to Audrey Fine on New Year's Day, an auspicious way to start the New Year and our best wishes to the happy couple. We were sitting having a drink in New York when Bob walked in with his daughter Wendy in December, and they were meeting his fiancee, Audrey, at that time. Bob is still in the bedding business in New Jersey and appeared to be in good health and spirits. It seems that we have many classmates going into their own businesses these days, and good luck and good wishes to Bill Fetzer who has started "Fetzer Foam, Inc." with offices both in Killington, Vt., and Wilmington, Del. He started the business in November and we certainly hope it is going well. He still lives with his family in Wilmington.
Heard from Frank and Ursula Weber down in Houston, Texas, and Frank's chief complaint is that he has to wait for the New York Times to come in to have any idea what's going on with Dartmouth sports. He missed his first Dartmouth-Yale game in twenty years and we missed his presence. Next year he plans his business trips around the Dartmouth games.
Warren Hulser reports that he and AlanHall are still trying to be "relevant" to the next generation at the St. Paul's School in Concord, N.H., where he is head of the Lower School and Alan is director of studies. Jacob Gleber reports that he is still with the DuPont Company in the Engineering Department and he moved back to Newark, Del., this past summer. LeRoyDavis' wife, Fran, was kind enough to drop us a note filling us in on some family activities. LeRoy is still at the office of R.M. Parsons Co. in Los Angeles with Fran and his daughter, Susanne, back in their ranch at Lakeside, Calif. Their daughter Suzi (15½) is winning trophies with her horse and LeRoy is also doing a good job as a grandfather twice over by his stepdaughter.
Congratulations are in order to another one of our Naval personnel who has been promoted to captain. Leonard R. Kojm is aboard the "USS Ponchatoula" as commander of Submarine Division 12. We heard from Art Diemer informing us that he left Union Carbide after twenty years and took a position with Cabot, Cabot and Forbes as vice president of their newly formed property management department with headquarters in Boston. CC&F is a national real estate developer with increasing activity in developing, owning, and managing new office buildings and skyscrapers. Being in the Boston area after having lived in Long Island gives Art a chance to visit Hanover again which he is looking forward to doing. Sandy Gross is an account executive at Doyle, Dane and Bernback, one of the nation's leading advertising firms. He is also father of a baby born March 30, 1969 named Mary Katherine. Congratulations, Sandy, on both accomplishments.
We had mentioned seeing Jack and LucyJoyce at the Princeton Game but we had not had much chance to chat with them and catch up on family news. They are still living in Stewartsville, N.J., busy raising their six children, sheep, horses, cats, St. Bernards, and other assorted fish and wild animals. They also expect to finish their ski chalet in Killington, Vt., in time for this season. They mention that they will be glad to rent the chalet if anyone is interested. It sleeps at least two families with bunks for 18, plus couches. Even if you are not interested in renting it, if you are going to ski around Killington, be on the lookout for Jack Joyce, not that it's very easy to miss him.
From Salt Lake City Al Colton writes expressing regret that he couldn't make the executive committee meeting and that he is enjoying being back in law practice. He still is involved in church activities also, preaching and teaching services on Sundays, and feels that it has proved to be a wonderful combination and much better life for the family.
We have belatedly learned that an honorary classmate, Prof. George E. Diller, passed away August 13, 1969. George's last residence was in France where he was teaching.
We are sorry to close the column with sad news, but we are completely cleaned out of news. This means that more news will be welcome and we look forward to hearing from classmates in the very near future.
