As Winter Carnival rolls around, I hope some of you will be able to make the trek and join in the usual festivities. Give me a call while in town, or come over (6433261). It would be great to see any of you, as always.
I notice from the recent letter he sent, that our hard-working fund raiser Gene Ryzewicz is off and running for 1970. He is doing his usual swell job, and needs all the volunteer class agents he can get. Why not write to him at 508 South 41st St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19104, and offer your help.
Mike and Jom O'Connor are alive and well in Bloomington, Ind. A recent letter from them wishes all '68s their best in 1970, and tells us Mike is currently in his second year at Indiana University Law School. Mike mentions that Jeff Church and Dirk Deßoos are also at the school. Dave "Radish" Hoffman has also been seen by Mike several times in Chicago. One of these times was at a small welcome home party for Bob Lynn who returned from the Peace Corps and is also studying law (Minnesota Law School).
Phil Basquin writes to say that he is getting to know Norfolk, Va., quite well. He is currently attached to VR-1, a transport squadron based at the Norfolk Naval Air Station, where he is a co-pilot on the C-118, a four-engine heavy transport. Phil has recently seen Tom Enright, a Naval Flight Officer with VP-10 in Brunswick, Me. Tom coordinates anti-submarine warfare problems in the P-3 ASW Patrol plane. Phil also saw Dick Derricks last January. Dick is serving on the "USS Douglas Fox," a destroyer based in Norfolk.
While on a trip south last September, Phil also ran into Al McCarthy who was going through air force flight training at Craig AFB in Selma, Ala., and Chuck Hall, who will be working at Fort Lee, Va., upon finishing training. Phil closes with an open invitation to "share some suds" with him. Contact him via the squadron, as his address has changed to another part of town since I received his letter.
Pete Hofman wrote again from Tacna, Peru. He used a winter scene which looks strangely like Hanover as the cover of his card. I hope you're not homesick for long, Pete. He noted that he finally was able to get his own room. That's something anyway!
Clark Wadlow, now in his second year at Harvard Law School, has become a member of the Harvard Law Review. He is also a member of the International Law Club and on the International Law Journal.
Derek Wolshonak (you all remember Dennis, alias Derek Wansbury!) is currently backing a play which will be produced in the Daytona Playhouse. Derek will direct and choreograph the musical "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," also appearing as Snoopy in the production based on Charles Schultz' Peanuts. If all goes well, the play will be run through the summer. Best of luck, Derek!
Steve Williams has been named the USEASA 1970 roving coach for cross country. Steve is currently in his second year at Yale Law School, and nursing a serious knee condition which has left him semiretired from the ski competition.
I also heard from John Pendleton as he was recently contemplating his "139 more days to Freedom!" John is in Long Binh, Vietnam. Other numbers were figuring in "is life recently, too, as he found out his draft call number was 335! And June 27th, John takes the plunge! Out of the frying pan into the fire, I guess, but I hope he and Cheryl will be very happy. They will both be studying at the University of Texas. ("Thank God for the G.I. Bill!")
Jim Donnelly sends greetings from South Miami, Fla. Since he married Carol Burns in June of '68, he has moved no less than six times, which makes him a candidate for the Class' Jet Set! A seventh move to Vietnam was scheduled for last September, but was cancelled at the last minute. ("I think they called it a reprieve.") Jim is currently Public Affairs Officer of the 47th Artillery Brigade, air defense. He finds the work interesting enough, but is also looking forward to something else in the next few months. Good to hear from you, Jim!
