The slow pace of winter correspondence affords a great opportunity to dent my pile of "already married" '69's. Just two days after Commencement, Jim Heath took the vows with the former Mara Blake (Mt. Holyoke '69). Hen Reitailliau was best man and John Sasser, Mike Brune, and Chris Marshall '70 were ushers. Jim and Mara live at 34 Morton Ave., Newport, R. I., where he is undergoing Naval OCS training. Jim tells us he sees Terry Hess quite often. (Terry is his company commander during training.) In April the Heaths will move on to Norfolk where Jim will undergo advanced training at the Navy Intelligence School. Jim would like to hear from PhilPratt and John Sasser, two Navy men neither he nor I can locate.

A more recent wedding in the Hanover area featured Jack Mills taking the former Laura Freeman (Vermont '71) as his December bride. '69's rendering their placid assistance included Jim Dupret, CharlieCochran, Bob Gunst, and Bob Johnson. "The Beagle" is now doing graduate work in Urban Planning at N.Y.U. and living in the city. Earlier in the fall, the former Sandra Brown Lowell was united in marriage with Pat Docherty. Ushers at the Weston, Mass., event were John French, Bruce Watson, and Mitch Lavery. The Dochertys are presently in Hanover while Pat finishes his B.E. work at the Thayer School.

Over the holidays, Art LaMontagne travelled East from St. Louis University Medical School to take the former Janet Bushnell as his bride. The couple then motored back to Missouri where Art will resume his medical studies and his wife will work as a registered nurse. As a med student, Art was recently honored by being elected to membership in the Connecticut State Medical Society.

Winding up the wedding whirl is DonCole, married a mere month ago to the former Virginia Cartnell (Mt. Holyoke '70). Don is doing graduate work at Hastings College in San Francisco while his wife completes her degree work at Mills College in Oakland.

An interesting closing note is taken from a recent UPI feature release. Brian Maracle attended the first national Indian Education Conference in Minneapolis in late November. Speaking before Bureau of Indian Atfairs officials, he supported the cause of increasing educational opportunities for Indians. He highlighted his argument by saying that "Dartmouth claims to be a good school for Indians, but I was only the 16tn Indian to graduate from the school in 105 years!"

Food for thought, Eleazar!
