It's time to stick that 1040 form away and try and appease the ALUMNI MAGAZINE office once again.
Don Samuelson sent on some choice comments from Chicago where he administers to the future barristers at the University of Chicago Law School. Don expressed the hope that this column could reflect some of the class reaction to the more meaningful problems of today. Guess Sam is a bit fed up with the society page. I've tried soliciting opinions on Vietnam a couple of times and received little response. Once I threw in an appeal for some discussion of co-education at Dartmouth and nothing happened. So fellows this time drop a line for Don and tell us what's wrong with things these days. I'll give you the ink.
In the meantime back to what's on hand. John Dennis says hello from Calgary, Canada, where he can be found in the biology department at the U. of Calgary. John's message was, "Al McCray finally got married." Congratulations, Al.
Keeping a close eye on the activities south of the border is Phil Lawler who checks out the Dow Jones in San Diego. Phil says that we're all invited to Del Monte Street for "pot luck." Sue and the three younger Lawlers help fill up the pad.
Ron Tagney keeps busy these days turning out the work for the West Newbury, Mass., School Committee. Ron has served on the board for two years, and has tackled the State Board of Education on the question of compulsory districtization. Ron and Brooke along with Liza and John have been in West Newbury for five years from where Ron operates as assistant to the president of the North Shore Community College.
A new vice president at the Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A., is John Knight, who will be assigned to the portfolio and investment management division. He had been manager of the government dealer division. Joining Chase Manhattan in 1964 as a credit analyst, he was appointed an assistant treasurer in 1967 and promoted to second vice president in 1968. He and Joan and their daughter live in Brooklyn Heights, the Beacon Hill of New York City.
The 1962 voice of Big Green hockey was Tom Green, remember? Tom is still vocal but now sends out the words for the U.S. Attorney's Office. Tom recently was the prosecuting attorney who did in the infamous "D.C. 9," the Eastern equivalent of the "Chicago 7." In a frank interview with the "Minneapolis Tribune" Tom expressed the feeling of sympathy for anti-war sentiments, but felt that the defendants (accused of unlawful entry and malicious destruction of Dow Chemical office) were motivated by arrogance, rather than sincere principal. Tom revealed the sense of frustration that accompanies the realization that some people have totally abandoned peaceful methods of protest. As the prosecutor for a small city in New Hampshire with only infrequent courtroom outbursts, I have some personal knowledge of the problems that Tom must face in a much more serious way. Are we the failures for not being able to reach them or do they just lack the faith and confidence in our court procedures?
Josh Rich has asked that I set the record straight. It seems that he does not really live in Fort Lauderdale nor work there on a regular basis. However he is alive and well and toils for Reynolds and Co. in New York City as the assistant research director. When he manages to escape from the "Street" Josh finds Karen and the three little Indians, Josh, Chris, and Steve, waiting in Califon, N. J.
My note of appreciation goes to Roy Halstead's better half, Cathy who says that all is well in Brussels where Roy keeps busy consulting on supermarkets, motels, warehouses, and restaurants. Daughter Libby (3) was joined by Brother Ted in July of 1968 who is all set for the class of 1990.
The Halsteads often bump into Dave andBonnie French during their European tours and report that the Frenches last fall welcomed baby Allison who now joins two-year-old Elizabeth.
On the other side of the States are Steveand Alice Reid who landed in Hawaii in September. Steve is opening an office for his insurance firm. Daughter Kristen is busy watching to see if the surf's up.
That's it for another month. Let's get the news in and help make Don Samuelson's day.
