June is. (1) Something borrowed, something blue, (2) busting out all over, (3) the YMCA's anniversary month, (4) a four letter word not found etched in telephone booths, (5) a month with a day honoring all married males with children aptly termed, "Father's Day," (6) all of thee above. Congratulations! Now proceed to more enlightening news of unparalleled interest.
What's up docs? Looks as if we'll shortly have two more M.D.'s interning down at Duke Medical Center. Both Bob "W" Tucker and John Reed after graduation from Harvard Medical School this month. Bob will also be taking his M.A. from Oxford won in '67; John, his wife Jean and daughters, Ann and Wendy.
As the old saying goes - when in Turkey, do as the turkies do. A good thing for Dave Goodwillie to remember. Dave's been selected to lead a student group to Turkey this summer as part of The Experiment in International Living program. Members learn about a country from the vantage point of a family environment. Hope you'll be back in time for Thanksgiving, Dave.
No wonder Steve Lewinstein's right in there pitching his new novel. It's entitled, "Double Play," and is obviously about our national pastime. In case Steve strikes out with this one, his second, entitled "Computer Coach," is waiting in the on-deckbatter's circle. Both are by Westminster Press. In addition to writing, Steve's been busy earning a law degree (Cornell '67), serving as law clerk, and acting as v.p. of Barclay Limited, Inc. Boston, a holding company for three financial institutions. During a seventh inning stretch, he also found time to marry the former Diana Schaffer (no relation). But I wouldn't mind pinch-hitting for you any time, Steve.
Open in the name of the law. Rich Berkowitz recently announced the opening of his law office at 136 Main St., Westport, Conn. I'm sure Rich would like to see all '63's in the area stop by. And bring money.
June is also "Gem'n'I" time. And Jim Ferguson can tell you about a hit record that's really a miss. Miss Sue Record (Holyoke '68) sure made a hit with Jim alright. They'll be getting married this month after Jim graduates from Columbia Biz. Sue's with Jim's former employer, Banker's Trust Co. (N.Y.C.).
And now for a few words from the class of '92. It's, "goo-Green-goo" from Baby Brian Campbell Huber (April 7, 1970), first son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Huber, Atlanta, Ga. The Hubers also have a 2½ -year-old daughter, Heather Carolen. And it's "Waa-hoo-waa" from Baby James Lawson Cappio, 7 lbs., 13½ Vi ozs. (April 19, 1970), son of Jim and Claire Cappio, Morristown, N. J. Big Jim's a product manager for Warner-Lambert's Rolaids.
Before I sign off for the summer, I'd like to announce that effective immediately, the Executive Committee, represented by its members attending the Class Officers meeting in Hanover on May 2, has asked BobFinney and Pete Brown to act as co-newsletter editors for the remainder of the term of the present slate of class officers. RogParkinson asked to be relieved of the position because it was incompatible with his job. Rog will continue as a member of the Executive Committee.
Bill Russell reminds me that the Class has fallen behind in Alumni Fund contributions. If you ain't got it now, at least please pledge something by June 30. It helps keep Dartmouth green.
Keep the notes, whether newsy or nonsense flowing in. And stay tuned, same time, same station for more priceless palaver come October.
