Under the boardwalk has been revisited! After a summer shooting salt-water taffy cannons on the beach at California Avenue in Atlantic City, N. J., here comes column one, year three. Since our graduation we've missed eight bonfires, two tug-o'-wars, two of each party weekend, and a host of other waxing traditions. Does this leave the class of '69 empty and nauseous? Have you made the plunge into enervating adulthood at an infant age?
Looks like some '69s really have it all together. This one always did. The following eclectic quote-paraphrase comes from the Enfield (N. H.) Mascoma Weekly: former BMOC, athlete, IFC prexy and honors grade Dimitri Gerakaris took up Longfellow on his dream. The world's most versatile blacksmith can be seen shirt- removed and leather-apron-girdled at his shop by the shores of Lake Mascoma along Route 4-A in Enfield, N. H.
According to Dimitri, talking with friends and the openess of other smithies led him into the legion. He specializes in custom orders and sets up his portable forge at numerous New England flea markets. The ectasy of life and the pride of the Class of 1969 go to with Dimitri Gerakaris!
"I like to have people come in, tell me what they want, and stay and watch me make it. That way they have some feel for what they are getting. I find I jump out of bed early in the morning and get right to work again because it's something I enjoy doing."
Chris Elders, now a doctoral candidate at the University of Georgia, has received a Sigma Xi society research grant to help support his advanced oceanographic research. Chris is "examing the formation and preservation of lebenspuren in shallow recent sediments of the North Sea."
Word has come of the appointment of Allan Rogers to the post of assistant treasurer in the U. S. Government Securities department of Bankers Trust Company, N. Y. Allan, whose 1970 address was Apartment 4, 39 Harrison Ave., Montclair, N. J. 07042 where he presumeably still lives with wife Deborah 1 whom he married in 1969. Formerly he had been financial analyst in the automotive production of General Motors, New York City. Note that his "intended vocation was management in the computer field." Allan, good computing, good commuting and congratulations.
Andy McLane has also received an academic award, the Judson Dunaway Scholarship to Tuck school. Andy is married to the former Nancy Morrell of North Conway, N. H., and they have just returned from two years with the Peace Corps in Chad, Africa. Howie Wildman is also with the Peace Corps in Dahomey, West Africa. He's helping develop a pilot project extracting the essential aromatic oils from orange and lemon peels for commercial use as flavoring and perfume.
Terry and Barbara Light have returned to New England. After two pedagogic years at Milton Hershey School in Hershey, Pa., T. has entered Boston Law School. Norm Jacobs is an also-Bostonian, working hard at his own economic enterprises. He'd like to see any and all old classmates at his Boylston Street pad.
Bill Donovan has a new room-mate in his third year at B. C. Law School. His June 13 bride was the former Mary Colby (Emmanuel College). Classmates ushering the event included Steve Adams and BobSturges. At the end of summer Lieutenant (j.g.) and Mrs. George Ross returned to the University of Pennsylvania where George is completing pre-doctoral work in International Relations. Lieutenant Phil Pratt, USN, was best man for the late June ceremony. Mrs. Ross is the former Ann Marie Krumreich, a St. Francis of Loretto graduate.
The executive office of the Class of 1969 wants a lot of newsy names in the Alumni Magazine this year, so that when class dues begin everyone will have been remembered and want to contribute bountifully. So, if you want to be remembered, please write and tell me how you want it done.
