Olive drab is still sartorial splendor for many 69's: Tom Kenney just finished serving with Headquarters Co. of the Ist Marine Division in Viet Nam. Navy Lt. (j.g.) Phil Hallam recently received his "Wings of Gold", making him a Naval Aviator at Chase Field Naval Air Station, Beeville, Texas. Dan Koerner is also an aviator at Beeville, receiving training there after basics at Pensacola, Fla. DaleAchenbach, after losing a showdown with a ten-wheel rig, is spending six placid months with the Navy in Iceland. Ensign Dick McNeil has drawn a more amenable tour of duty in Honolulu.
Dave Kinsey now owns a Masters of Public Affairs and Urban Planning from Princeton. Mike Stratton is still tripping but is spending at least part of the time 'restoring a cabin near Walden Pond and rethinking all of my James Cox English courses!' Sam Faber is in year three at Hershey Medical School where his contemporaries have described him as the "incommunicado resident muscle-bound freak."
Dave Prentice got his Tuck MBA in June and has been managing and developing family land interests in Quebec ever since:
"Finding myself in the middle of the economic straits and therefore jobless, I decided what the hell and headed for my parents' cabin in the middle of Nowhere, Quebec. Here I have been safely ensconced for the past three months, out of reach of civilization (such as it is), jobs, people, and the rest. I've been keeping busy repairing roofs, stovepipes, moving the outhouse, etc., etc."
Jeff Kelley, not-so-fresh out of North-western's Journalism School, is in D.C. as a special assistant to New Hampshire's Senator McIntyre. Word has it that he's been making quite a few gravy runs to Hanover. Stanford MBA Bob Shellard is working for the Dept. of Commerce, also in Washington. Hank Allen got his MSEE at Stanford and will stay there as a research assistant. Bob Throndsen and Jon Swenson are both with the News Dept. of KGW-TV in Portland, Ore.
In Boston, Rick Oliver has just begun his second year at Boston College Law School. 'Big- Al' Gordon is the transient political-State House snoop for the Quincy (Mass.) Patriot-Ledger. Lyle Nyberg and wife are also living in suburban Boston. He recently ran for political office and lost, but "did well for a newcomer... a name like Nyberg doesn't quite make it in an Italian town, (at least I got the Jewish vote.) Since then, I got elected by town meeting members in my precinct to fill a vacancy."
That's it for November written in early October. Have a good Thanksgiving and give me an unexpected Christmas gift and write. I'd invite you all down here to Camp Swampy, the world's largest Marine amphibious training center, but I already know you wouldn't like it! Please, someone, anyone, before Christmas, where are the Toad and Hot Shorts?
Marine Lt. Mark Waterhouse '68 receivesthe Navy Commendation Medal withCombat Device for meritorious service onOkinawa and combat operations in Vietnam. Skip is now visiting college campuses as a Marine recruiter.
