Bob Jackson writes me about another memorable achievement. This one is about football. In the fall of 1891 Bob, a youngster of eleven years, went to Hanover and saw his first Dartmouth football team defeat Amherst 34-0. From that important date to the present he has seen a Dartmouth team in action every year. If he sees as he expects to do the current edition of Dartmouth football under its new coach Jake Crouthamel '60, it will be the 80th Dartmouth team he has seen in action. This is a record which I believe cannot be equalled by any other Dartmouth graduate. For baseball, in Cooperstown, N. Y., and for basketball, in Springfield, Mass., there is a Hall of Fame in which notable performers are enrolled. I suggest that a football Hall of Fame, of which Bob is made a charter member, be established in Hanover. This would be, .it seems to me, a fitting tribute to him who for eighty years has been an interested and devoted follower of Dartmouth football teams.
Gilbert, son of "Cuddy" Balkam, writes me that he and his wife spent the Christmas holidays with his mother, Gertrude, who is quite well and comfortable in a nice rest home on Cape Cod. It is gratifying to know that one of the older members of our 1900 family is still in good physical condition and enjoying life.
